If you look at Colombus' cap situation you would realize that they are in trouble and very vulnerable to an offer sheet for Jones. They only have about 3 or 4 million dollars in cap space next year so unless they are able to unload contracts or bridge deal Jones he's gonna get offers north of 5mil for 5 years. Compensation for that is a 1st and 3rd. So like the Dougie Hamilton deal last year, we give coloumbus a little more than what theyd get for compensation (plus mind you our picks could be quite high next draft). So although it would have to work out perfectly, i dont think its out of the question that Toronto makes an offer for Jones.

As for the Bernier deal, that one was more of a stretch. I'm fine with keeping him as backup till his contract expires but if there were any way Lou could shed his contract i hope he does.

It's definitely an interesting trade. However, I would not do it, and here's why. First of all, Seth Jones hasn't reached his full potential. And he never may. Personally, I view him as a great #3 on a good team. In my opinion, giving up a 1st that will definitely be a lottery pick is very risky. Imagine if it's a top 3. I just don't think the Leafs are in a position right now to trade their first round picks.

Agree with Evan...where the heck is this future # 1 pick going to be top 3 or 15? And Jones....is he that good? IMO he hasn't shown it yet. Connor Carrick seems to earned a spot as RHD.

Evan i completely agree that trading the 1st is risky however if there was ever a draft to do this its this upcoming one. It is supposed to be weak and also now with Vegas coming in i think they automatically get best odds at first overall (or 2nd or 3rd best something like that). Jones may not be a #1 but i think he is at least a #2 and would make a killer pairing with Rielly. Not saying in any way that we would make the playoffs next year, but i think with this team we would get out of the NHL basement and unless we had unbeleivable luck we would probably be picking between 5-15 area.
