Rebuilding teams don't trade away their high round draft picks.

Blake says, Excuse me? Did I hear you right? You're offering Orlov and a second and a third?

Orlov and a 3rd for Martinez and a 2nd should do...in fact Caps throw in a conditional 4th rounder for some metric to sweeten the picks for Blakey. Do it!

So a rebuilding team can't aquire a youngish top 4 defensemen on a 4 year contract to improve their D core? Who's to say the 2nd's would be very high? Could end up mid 40's picks.

They can, but they shouldn't and won't.

The Kings got quality players in Kaliyev and F agemo (the profanity filter apparently doesn't like his name) in the 2nd round this year, one of which was 50th overall. I would much rather have another F agemo in the pipeline than a few seasons of Orlov.

Martinez should be traded for future quality players, not for players in their prime now. They certainly shouldn't trade Martinez AND quality draft picks for a single player in his late 20s.
