Does anyone know if his salary is 4.5 million? Or is it heavy bonuses with a small salary so he'd be a good trade piece?

I don't mind this deal, like others have said, there is not a lot of risk with a 1 year contract. If his play improves, they can look at potentially signing him to a longer deal next year unless he decides to hit free agency.

Technically Nathan Horton doesn't go on LTIR until the season starts so. It may look like they have no cap space but they actually do

If Ceci is bad just let him go next year. Great signing

Why that much money?

Edit: I thought he'd sign for his QO. I think it was 4.3M. This isn't much more, but even 4.3M is too much.

Arbitration? Is this auto-correct that i'm talking to? tears of joy

How would he get more in arbitration? Hopefully the arbitrator understands that he's not a 4.3M player. If he got to arbitration they should have given him 4.3M because that's his QO and it's still more than they should be paying him.

He still played quality minutes on Ottawa last season. There are things he could say that would get him close to 5 Million

I have a feeling that this will turn into a sign and trade.

He had limited value unsigned ... and I'm hoping Dubas gave him a contract with 100% signing bonus ... to be paid immediately.

A cash strapped team would happily take a 100% free 25 year old RD who plays 20+ minutes a night.

They'd probably give us something OK too.

I would take Zaytsev over Ceci any day, for sure. Z was actually good in playoffs, easily TORs second best D.

No, not at all. He's worth 3 Million tops, but Ottawa signed him to a bad contract and then sent him a QO. Nothing Toronto can do really.

Doubt it. He's already met with Babcock, and Dubas was talking about what his role will be in next season in his initial press conference.

LOL

I guess there goes the, they won't sign him hope.
It could be worse, it could be multiple years. But he's awful. He doesn't play the body, and he doesn't play the puck. Not sure what he's doing out there half the time, and I don't think he is either.

It's hard to call this a good or a bad deal as such. It's a thing that had to happen I guess?

Ceci couldn't make less than $4.3M, and I beleive if he was awarded somethign like $4.6M or so in Arbitration the Leafs wouldn't be able to walk away, and wouldn't get to structure the deal. I will be interested to see if this ends up being $3.8M or so in signing bonus just in case they decide to move him once Dermott is healthy, but I think they need a body, and getting him done for the same money as Zaitsev essentially means they got out from under the last 4 years of Zaitsev's deal scott free and got a 3rd for Brown.

So I guess this deal is just the cost of doing business.
