Solid signing

Left Hand side now looks like

Mete (2nd line PP)
Chiarot (1st line PK)
Kulak (2nd line PK)

I like it. It's not perfect, but it's better than last year.

Expensive for what he does imo. But at least he’s an improvement from Benn

Not really. Physical defender that compliments Petry perfectly. The AAV isn't bad for a 2nd pairing defender.

The Habs should like this signing, you will be missed in Winnipeg "Big Ben!"

He had a decent year with points too....a physical stay at home D who got 20 points, never on the PP...

I guess it means habs are out on Gardiner then. Or maybe they never were interested.

Solid signing for the Habs. Should pair pretty well with Petry. Offers little offence but can PK well. AAV a *little* high but it's by no means bad at all. Term is good.

I imagine they weren't willing to give the Term that Gardiner wanted. Bergevin learned his lesson dishing out that kind of money and term on Alzner.

Good deal. Right now they have just enough cap space that if they get Aho, they'll be under the cap. They still have a few more RFAs to sign but they know they're not getting Aho. So, it hasn't stopped them from making other moves, i guess.

How could they still get Aho?

Funny how Jack Johnson 3.25m gets SLAMMED but Chairot who is probably marginally better at best gets 3.5m and no one bats an eye.
*Cue Jack Johnson is old and 5 years term*
Johnsons deal is 1 year longer than Chairot right now, not a huge difference.

Even though Carolina has announced they will match, Montreal is waiting until it's official by saving just enough cap space for him. But they know they aren't getting him. Carolina waiting it out didn't stop Montreal from signing Chiarot.

Thats the whole reason...Chiarot is only 28...and signed only a 3 year term....31 at the end instead of 35...big difference

Johnson isn't even a top 6 defensemen in this league. He doesn't provide anything except gifting the other team goals.

Chiarot isn't that good, and the $$ is too much imo. He's fine as a bottom pairing dman, but he is not better than Benn. (He is younger though.)

Meh. Don’t see him play that much, so I won’t comment too much on it. That 3rd year could come back to bite us in the butt though.

I’m pretty sure Aho doesn’t count against the cap. It does tie up their picks though. Either way, we’re still allowed to exceed the cap by $8.15 million.

Aho would count against the cap if they got him, obviously. But Carolina has announced they will be matching. Montreal is saving the cap space for the very unlikely chance that Carolina is tricking them and is letting him go to Montreal. But the chances of that happening are about 0.1%

and 9/10 a 31 year old plays better than a 35 year old....when they were a similar player in their prime...

Also probably plays better on the top-2 pairings & the left side than Benn.
