They currently have just over $9 million in cap space, with Horton on LTIR and a 23 man roster (Dermott will start on IR). This is not enough to sign Marner, unless it’s on a 2 year deal. Something needs to budge.

Not necessarily. The Leafs will most likely be over the cap to start the season, due to Dermott’s injury, and won’t be able to accrue cap space due to Horton being on LTIR.

IMO he’ll need to make one more move to make them have the ability to be cap compliant this year.

I think if he signs for 10.25 they’ll be good anything more there will have to be another move

The only way they could make that work is by keeping less than 23 players on the roster.

What a terrible return. The only deal I see the Leafs making with the Islanders would be Marner for Barzal. The Isles of course would never do it, because they are not very deep at center.

I understand they could handle it. I just think that if they made 1 more move, everything would be much easier, and they wouldn’t be scrambling for every bit of cap space they can get.
