Description

The money Matthew Tkachuk will demand exceeds anything CGY mgmt will consider reasonable. Nylander's contract is in line with their salary structure and Chucky with Marner and Matthews on the same team is gold. Or, in this case, silver...as in a big shiny cup. Marner on a 3 year bridge gets them out of immediate cap trouble and allows him to cash in when the new American TV deal kicks in. Three years is optimal IMO but if it's two so be it...

Leafs can't afford it and Calgary would never do it. Makes no sense.

Certainly the Leafs can't afford Tzahcuk if he is going to hold and sign for that much as you indicate. Actually I think Tzachuk just might be a big signing problem. After all his father refused to report to camp on year when he had a signed contract. That's the definition of a hold out.
As a Leaf I'd trade 7m Nylander for a 7m Tzachuk probably.

The Leafs-Flames trade would need to (a) be bigger and (b) it would need to be conditional on the Leafs and Tkachuk having worked out the above deal before the trade is completed.

Look at what they paid Johnny Hockey and Monahan. You think theyre making Chucky their most expensive player? I think they offer 6.8 and it becomes a holdout situation wi;h Chucky sitting. Nylander is a similarly skilled player in terms of offense at an AAV that fits CGY's budget and strusture. And yeah, TOR locking up Marner and Matthew's buddy for under 8 for 5 years? Dubas LOVES that deal.

I bet he lands somewhere between 7.5-8 mil. he's easily the future captain and will be the highest paid player on the team. even if they offered him your 6.8, he'd still be the highest paid player on the roster...Dubas and 31 other gm's around the league love that deal.

Not about who makes the most; more about the range of AAV required to lock him up long term. A TSN panel was recently talking about this and the that the money 19 will want exceeds what Treiliving is agreeable to. They identified him as the one particular RFA who may be a holdout this off season.
