If Marner was willing to sign for 10 x 6 or 7, the deal would be done by now. He's not signing anything that doesn't start with at least a 9.

if the leafs were going to pay him 10 million over 3 years the deal would also likely be done by now. Without buying UFA years, Marner's contract decreases in value significantly. While I think 7.5 is low, 8 x 3 is realistic imo.
You have to realize the leafs know marners camp set his value through talking with the media. Without the media hype, and marners dad and agent saying 11 million, people would be saying if the leafs are only getting 3 years, that 8 million is far too much.
The thing is, 4 years is off the table because he walks right to UFA. 5 years is very very unlikely because then Marner, Matthews and Willy are all UFA's at the same time. that leaves 6, where he would get 10+, or 2 or 3 where the number likely starts with an 8 or very very low 9.

These are all very good points... my thoughts... Dubas put on his big boy pants and told marner if you want 8 figures it’s for 8 years. Then told him 10 x 8 then let him go to talk to teams as an rfa. Would you look at that... no offersheet. No one is giving marner the contract he wants and giving up 4 1st round picks.

I agree i think 10 is too much i was just trying to show that they can make it work with all this offer sheet talk. I think the number on a 3 year deal would START at somewhere around like you said low 9's and Marner's camp will counter with a higher number I would imagine. 3 x 9.2? 2 x 8? who knows what's going to happen.

Who know how this all ends, but we have a really comparable just a week ago. Aho and Marner have had almost identical stats for the past two years. Aho "settled" for 8.45 X 5
So three years years, 8m tops. All the other RFA...Point, Rantanen, Tzachuk, Laine, Connor, McAvoy, Trouba...them and their teams are almost waiting for someone to sign so another comparable can be made.
