Mete is waiver exempt on one hand and the LD is getting crowded.

But Kulak is not better than Mete. The lines are also kinda messed up

If it comes to overall abilities, maybe you're right. But Kulak/Reilly are better shutdown Ds and (as already mentioned by SCGLisme) Mete is waiver exempt.
Can't see lines are messed up...where, why?
In an ideal world you would get Alzner's and Weise's contracts off the book. But while this will not happen the idea was strengthen top 4 D and add a young player that may become a potential steal. If it doesn't pan out, you're not stuck with an overpaid veteran.
In addition, I think a full season w/ Mete-Juulsen in the AHL will help both getting desperately needed consistency. Have to admit that I don't feel very confident about Mete as a reliable future top 4 D. - But may the Hockey Gods prove me wrong! awesome face

First, Mete has played big shutdown minutes beside Weber so I wouldn’t necessarily question his reliability on defence. His offensive consistency has to improve but that comes with experience. The problem is that without Mete, there is no left handed puck moving dmen. As seen in the playoffs, Gardiner cannot be trusted and Kulak and Chiarot are not really puck movers. You therefore have to rely solely on Petry to move the puck.

And about the lines, first of all, no 4th line LW. Second, you shouldn’t break the most consistent line the Habs has last year, Tatar-Danault-Gally. Third, just looking at the way he dominated in dev camp, Poehling NEEDS a spot on the team. Also, Armia and Lehky are slightly overpaid.

I agree with Kulak and Chiarot. But Gardiner definitely can move the puck. His transition game is not A+ graded, but far better than Mete's (until now). Additionally, he's far more consistent than Kulak/Mete/Reilly/Folin.
Gardiner's contributions off the rush are underestimated because he's not flashy, but definitely reliable. Good team player, and defensively versatile, imo.

Armia's and Lehkonen's salaries are approximately reasonable, but I admit I've done worst case (so cap space is definitely not exaggerated).
My fault w/ no LW on 4th line - now fixed. Consistent line w/ Tat-Dan-Gal is a good point. Also Poehling's potential contribution.
For me, the addition of Puljujärvi is crucial. If it comes to different lines I'm ok with that. (There may evolve better lines, but maybe no better lines than Tat-Dan-Gal - we'll see). Burning Poehling's potential with 4th line duty is out of discussion imo. So what to do? Slide Domi to wing and give Kotkaniemi and Poehling 1st to 3rd center duties? High gamble regarding their (in)experience. But if you're fine with another year of experimentation Habs may benefit in 20/21.
A hefty difference maker in offence is extremely unlikely. Bergevin is risk averse. Going all-in is a no-go for him. Thus, Laine, Marner, Point and even Konecny (that would be great!) are out of reach. Tried to take this into account when building the roster.
Would be interesting to explore your roster scheme! Let me know.
