Instead of giving up 4 future 1st rounders, would you give up two prior 1st rounders. 2 of Wahlstrom, Bellows, Dobson, Wilde. It would have to be one forward and one RD

You have to overpay to make it work, that is why you just don't see offer sheets. Montreal gave Aho fair value and just tried to screw the Canes with the bonus structure and that still didn't work. Teams may be putting the offer sheet threat out there hoping for a trade

Go 10.5, i don’t think Leafs match and you pay less in picks. He’s not worth 10.5 honestly though. That is an overpayment as is.

I did, i was talking to some buddies of mine and we kinda agreed that while he's not breaking it he's in the loop enough to confirm the isles are the team

Leafs would match and make it work. You have to go north of $11m. Leafs only don't match if they are getting the 4 1st rounders and see that is fair compensation for an overpaid Marner.

That's kinda the avenue I'm feeling. Gotta overpay to make it worth their while

Trade Boychuk and Mayfield to give Wilde and Dobson roster spots Martin and Griess is coming off the books and trade others out to give Wahlstrom/Bellows/Koivula roster spots and all of a sudden you shoyuld have enough money to give Barzal, Pulock and Toews handsom raises

Please please do Leafs nation a favor and offer him that kind of money! We'll take the 4 first rounders with arms wide open!

the mere assertion that you'd prefer the four firsts is comical at best and delusional at worst

If you want to overpay a winger months after a season where the Islander roster overachieved, by all means be my guest. That cap only handicaps you for now and the future. If your solution is trading depth away to pay for your "future stars" than you guys are in for a rude awakening.

Keep coasting on your high though, we'll enjoy success with or without him.

So? ??‍♂️ They don’t have the cap space to match right now. I know they’d want the 4 1sts in order not to match and not the lesser package so they’d likely have to. Won’t hurt Isles feelings to make life difficult for Leafs either.

Yeah, good luck getting rid of Boychuck at 6 mil for two more years without any more first rounds picks left (see Marleau trade). And even with all that movement, we're talking way over the cap. Barzal will want 8 mil (or else offer sheet), Toews 3.5 mil and Pulock probably 6 mil. If the cap is at say, 83 mil, you would be over the cap still if you traded Mayfield and Boychuck and Clutterbuck (with somehow no cap coming back), and Greiss and Martin leaving. Your roster would still need to resign Beauvillier (2.5 mil per?) and add 4 of your prospects or low cost ufa's. So even if all that happened, you would be 5 mil over, with zero picks with all those dump trades. Good luck.

funny thing is that if you replace islander with leaf in that sentence and pretend i said it, it still makes sense

I'll be sure to tune in throughout the season at all the Islanders rage Armchair-GM posts. Until then thanks in advance for fixing a problem and giving us your future.

Truly exciting!

I understand that but Nylander would most likely get traded then. Isn't the point of an offer sheet to actually get the player? Otherwise whats the point? Do you think other general manager's sit around thinking about how they can screw other gm's over? Cause my bet would be that thwy would be fired for not doing their job which is to make their own team better

I know this post is about getting Marner, but no one has anything to say about the Leddy trade? It seems a bit of an underpayment in my mind and IMO Betterall would jump to make that trade. Any feed back is appreciated.

I think Lou would have a better Leddy trade lined up before the offersheet is official. A 1st and B level prospect or so. Maybe multiple picks. Maybe multiple prospects.

But yeah, I do agree the value here is light. But if NYI can actually land Marner I won't gripe too much about a potential Leddy return
