Gardiner - Read explanation

Created by: rangersandislesfan
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2019
Published: Jul. 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think Gardiner SHOULD get 6X6.5 ... however, it seems like that's probably what he's going to get. It's not a good contract in my opinion but he'll probably get it anyway.

Not from Montreal he wont. I can't see anyone giving him that money or they would have.

Done strictly so cap works with the Gardiner signing. Not because common sense is used. Montreal did not sign a back up goalie just to bury him. If by chance Montreal does still sign someone to a 6 mil contract, (not Gardiner) it won't be Kinkaid that will be moved somewhere for cap relief.

According to reports, Jake Gardiner is seeking 7 years $50 million the Kevin Hayes deal. No way he's taking $39 million over 6 seasons.

Teams are shying away for several reasons
1) he has shown to many defensive lapses the past couple of years
2) he missed time last year and played through the playoffs with a wonky back
3) his demands are to high!!! He can’t get more than myers money!!
4) not many “playoff contending” teams have the cap space, it’s been spent already!!!! He wants to play for a playoff contending team.

I think Gardnier will end up in a 1 or 2 year “show me and I’ll pay you” contract... and I’m thinking 4 million is going to be the salary

I'd offer Gardiner a 2 - 3 yr 5.5 - 5.75 MAX. He's not worth 7per. He's finding that out the long hard way.

I completely agree those are reasons teams SHOULDN'T pay him 6.5X6 but it sounds like some teams are willing to pay him that. Maybe not though, idk.

True haha ... didn't know who to put in goal. Kinkaid does save more cap space when in the minors but you're right. They just signed him for 1.75M so they probably won't send him down. May get claimed on waivers if they do anyway.
