What i think the leafs should do if marner signs offersheet

Created by: PuckPal
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2019
Published: Jul. 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If he is offersheeted Dubas should sign Ferland, Dzingel, and Lovejoy. This will deepen the roster and at the deadline the picks to go after a stud to even make this roster even better. I love marner but not at what is rumoured to be offered. Dubas will walk away as painful as it will be and the leafs not only are pissed at how the playoffs ended for them but have a team motivated and focused to prove marner was stupid not signing for market value.

The reports are its 12.5 marner want 11.6 and from all accounts is not budging that's why his agent and dad are aggressively trying to get an offersheet at over that. I still think he is overpaid at 10.568 but with some minor tinkering they can swing it but most teams know this and thats why the team rumoured to be offering is at 12.5.

As a non Leafs why not just run with Matthews, Tavares, Kapanen, Nylander, Johnsson, and Hyman in the top 6; then sign some 1 year contracts to fill out the lineup (like a Maroon/ Brian Boyle), or give the open bottom 6 spots to younger players. So that way you have some cap space to resign Barrie, Muzzin, maybe Ceci if he plays well in the off-season if the cap goes up again.

10.5 is not an overpayment for Marner, I think it is just right. What do you think would be a reasonable price for him?

Really? Getting 10m in cap space and then wasting on on thee meh players. No thanks. Certainly don't have to spend all this year. Save a big chunk of it to try to pay for good UFA next year.

The Leafs will let Ceci walk cuz they need to resign Dermott, unless a Ceci has an outstanding year and a Dermott plays poor. Also, the Leafs would want to work out some cap space to sign Pietrangelo if anything.

As long as we get the 4 1sts I'd patch for this year and sign Hall for less in the summer

Exactly, Dzingel and Ferland are not 1/2 of Marner’s skill and creativity. People tend to forget this but quality over quantity. If I had to choose between Marner or Dzingel and Ferland, it’s Marner all day.

I was thinking that but Dubas needs to replace marners production as best he can though Boyle and maroon is a solid options they are bottom 6/4th line forwards and this would give them 3 quality scoring lines and a solid 4th line.

They are not going to sign Hall, he’s going to demand 12+ million next summer. While he is a better hockey player than Marner, for a 28 year old, I would be hesitant to give him that contract.

If the OS happens, I say the Leafs need to fast forward the development of Bracco as a discount Marner 2.0. Give him Spezza as a mentor at the beginning of the season, and have the coaches work on his defensive game. Then, try him out with Tavares and Matthews, and play him on the second power play.

Also, I would maybe try to snatch Gusev from the Knights and forget about the UFAs.

Perfect plan.
Dzingle&Ferland would add serious depth&grit.
The picks will pay immediately.
Very well done..-~

No one said they would both combine to replace him based off stats prior but Tavares linemates put up inflated stats so though as a duo they will probably put up round 110-120 pts next season Hyman and Marner put up 135 so production wise they would lose very little and they are actually more playoff ready seeing Ferland is a soild physical top 6 wing.

Dzingel is not a complete player, he has Nylander level physicality. Guy won’t take a hit or use his body to win battles. Swing and a miss.

I have a question, if you can only have one of the following players on your team, who would it be? Marner at 5 years 10.5 million AAV or Nylander at 6 years 7 million AAV?

Honestly though i could stomach 10.5 I think based off Kutcherov, Stone contracts he should be round 9-9.5 if marner truly was going to play at market value. And if he wants even 10.5 he needs to sign for 8 years. And before you bring up taxes marner will be getting everything but .7 each year in signing bonuses just like tavares and Matthews which offsets taxes especially whdn you put his endorsement deals into the equations.

I’m just glad you didn’t tell me he’s in the 6-6.5 million dollar range because that’s what every girl I’ve been speaking to believes! Like the guy is better than Nylander, is it not obvious?

So even though he has been offersheeted supposedly at 10.5 which like i said the can swing you bring up a player who had a bad season cause he held out for 1/2 a season marner is not going to accept 10.5 his daddy has already stated that and from reports was offered roughly that already by the leafs so if your asking would i rather a player who even based off his playoffs and world champs will probably put up 80 pts or a player only after an over inflated contract that obviously never really wanted to play for the leafs then i'd take nylander and 2 quality top 6 forwards for the 10.5 marner thinks is not enough money.

Why not use the assets you get from the Mitch Marner trade to get Tom Wilson? He’s a better player than Ryan dzingel.

If thats what Dubas does great i just took 2 quality UFA's so that he could flip them in the comming seasons to go after shutdown dman, even more scoring depth and maybe even a stud goalie if need be.

Yeah I don’t want to see Dzingel on the Leafs, he doesn’t fit Babcock’s heavy and grit based style.
