I am curious to hear from Calgary fans. Why does it seem that Jankowski is a guy that is often moved in trades here? Big guys with some skill aren't easy to come by. What am I missing down here in St. Louis that makes Flames fans willing to move Jankowski?

It is usually more due to the fact that right now our second line with Backlund, Tkachuk and Frolik act as a shut down line rather than a scoring second line. Ideally we would like a 2nd line centre to play with Tkachuk in a scoring line and move Backlund to the 3rd for a defensive line.. With Ryan centring the 4th Janko becomes expendable.

It’s a great question. Big reason is that Monahan, Backlund, and Ryan should be 1/2/3C. And Dube is coming up quick.

So Janko is a great trade chip to add in a deal. He’s a very capable 3C who is getting a bit better each year. If Ryan wasn’t around, CGY fans wouldn’t be pitching Janko trades.

just my opinion but there are a 1000 guys like jankowski in the league who put up more points and contribute far more physically. He is at best a 4th line center.
he doesn't contribute at all physically
he puts up 4th line numbers
he isnt a good skater
and he isnt a good passer

hes just meh and the only thing hes got going for him is that hes young so we might aswell trade him now while his value lies in his control-ability

I think the willingness to move him probably stems from what you've mentioned here. A tall center with some skill that hasn't quite put it together is a good trade chip to get a guy who's more likely to contribute at a top 6 NHL level next season. He's a guy the Flames have been waiting to develop for a long time, and perhaps fans are running out of patience with him. It didn't help his case that he was chained to Neal most of last year and those two just don't fit on the same line. He's a guy the Flames can win with next season as he's good on the PK and on the fourth line at a little over a million and a half bucks, but also a guy other teams (like the Flames when they drafted him) could see progressing to a middle six center role for that same low cost.
