Giving away bjugstadt makes the team worse and goes against the direction they've been heading in. Vegas isn't going to give up the khl mvp for spare parts. Giving away 1st round picks and useful players is stupid when they couldve just bought out Johnson. Zar is basically a younger cheaper tanev, hes exactly the type of player they want for the bottom 6. That 1st will be needed to fill holes at the deadline, and Johnson can be traded, even if they have to retain salary, they'll move him without giving away valuable assets.

Finally someone who understands. The pens aren't desperate to move Johnson. In fact they seem to like him. He has good qualities as a NHL defenseman. Other GM's see this as well. That is why there is rumored to be a market for him. If the right deal comes along the pens make it, but they are absolutely not giving up major assets to do so. A lot of people seem to think that the Patrick marleau to Carolina trade set the market, but it is a totally different situation. His contract was for double Johnson's and the leafs had no choice but to move out large amounts of cap space otherwise they wouldn't have been able to resign any of their core RFAs. And even after moving out as much as the leafs did they still can't afford to sign their biggest RFA.
