Back Up Goalie

Description
I really don't think either of Sparks or Hutchinson will be on the Leafs roster to start the year. IMO Babcock needs a backup goalie he trusts if he's going to play him as often as Dubas seems to want (ideally 30 games). So I can see Dubas going bargain hunting for vets either in UFA like McKenna, Darling, or Ward. Or on the waiver wire come the end of training camp (Tampa should have one of Domingue or McElhinney, Philly one of Elliott or Lyon on waivers, among others). Or even a trade that I can't really predict.
I think Hutch is a good option to keep in the organization as a third in emergency but can't see Sparks sticking around after all the heat he took last year. I think a team in the central where they have the most travel and Dallas had success with two goalies last season would be a good fit. This would allow Sparks to get a chance to actually play in games and get in a rhythm, something that has given him success before. Colorado only has one semi-proven goalie in Grubauer so I think they would be a great fit and the Leafs already have a trading relationship with them.

The Leafs got a 4th for Soshnikov so I don't think this is crazy but it could be less.

How is Darling going to be any better? He lost it even more then Sparks did last year. They sent him to the AHL and then he took a leave.

He got bought out, so he likely signs a one year min salary contract to get another shot. Don't think he is worth the risk, would rather go with Hutch

Personally, I don't think he is better. If I was running the ship I would give Sparks a real chance playing 1 out of every 3 games. I don't think Babs will do that though. This is purely to please Babs at least somewhere on the otherwise Dubas friendly team.
