Was this a good signing?

He's nuts

What if he suffered a career ending injury next season? Maybe Labanc and GM Doug Wilson share an agent, lol.

This one is weird. It must be an error, a typo, right? Can we get a statement from him...

Everybody is forgetting that it's not all about the player. He might have done it to help the team. We've seen players do that before, and maybe that's what he's doing. If so, i like that he did that. What i'm confused about is how someone voted no.

Lebanc took a (by my estimate) a 250% (2.5M) reduction in AAV to, in turn, use the remaining amount to sign another useful depth piece ($1.1M) or flex for a mid-season trade AND sign Marleau and Thornton to min salary contracts ($1.4M combined) with the money that was saved. That’s 4 useful pieces and an epic last hurrah for 2 first ballot HHoF’ers.

I’m a life-long Leafs fan but I’d be cheering for the Sharks in a dream Leafs v Sharks final.

For those mentioning performance bonuses or pre-arranged deals, check the CBA before commenting. Both are not allowed (for non ELC/35+ for bonuses and for everyone for the “handshake deals”). If it surfaced that there was one in place, I believe this contract could be voided by the League.

Labanc is very close with JT, I wonder if he took the pay cut just to give him another good shot at the cup.

Tavares' nickname when the Sharks were hoping to sign him last year was JT2.

Someone was going to have to take a haircut to bring Jumbo back and it looks like it was all on Lebanc. I'm sure the team will take care of him in other ways to compensate him for what should have been over 4 times what he is being paid.

This could be the best signing of the off season. Historically this has always been a bad move by the player. 'Taking one for the team' never results in a bigger payday. If he tails off next season, he will never get compensated like he should for this past season.

Who voted no? Why is there a poll?

Please tell me that the person who voted "No" in the poll thought the question was being asked from the player's perspective . . .

Actually everybody should vote NO, cause its shamefull even from Club perspective to offer player like him a contract like that

Kevin "Lucky" Hayes 19 G + 36 A = 55 points ------ 7 YEARS $50,000,000
Kevin "Poor" Labanc 17 G + 39 A = 56 Points ------- 1 YEAR $1,000,000

Should we wait until that Contract is confirmed ------- that cannot be real

is there something hidden in this deal? Like is the qualifying offer structure similar to Miere that it will start at 10 million or something like that? Very risky move, but love the set of ball on this kid

He must have an agreement on a big extension after this year but interesting that no team sent a qualifying offer to try and get him

So many people who dont think here. Labanc is betting on himself and gets a huge payday next year with his new arbitration rights, and Doug Wilson gets his cap flexibility with $7M coming off the books the following season.

betting on himself after 20 + 40 + 56 seasons ? What do you think he will mass this year ? 100 Points and demand 7 x 11M ?

Bridges for his current kind of production are 3 x 4M....ask Kerfoot

I actually filled a report to FBI....
