Description
Ideal ending to the 2019 offseason.

For those of you who dont know Martain Kaut he was the 16th overall from last year, a right handed czech RW who played with Chytil growing up. Shoot first kind of guy with tremendous off upside, 6'2 about 185. Had a so-so year in the AHL and with the addition of Newhook and Kreider he becomes more expendable to the Avs. Seems like a win win trade to me.

Buy out Staal to open up room for young guys. Odds are higher that Smith will be "better" then Staal next year which isn't saying alot... but Quinn like Smith and you can kinda plug him in anywhere, buying them both out is shortsighted.

I think front office likes Strome a lot as a bottom 6 role player, good defender, goodfaceoff, and under team control rfa status, I think he stays then resigned for like 2.5m next year.

Kravtsov played center at IIHF u20s last year for Russia and did excellent I think they try him at center with Buchnevich.

Lots of rookies on this lineup it's going to be rough sledding.

A bit harsh on this response, ya think?
Maybe you just don't want the Avs to do business with the Rangers...which is fine...but should Kreider get moved, the going rate will probably be a late 1st and a prospect...I can see if you want something in the deal as insurance against Kreider being a 1 year rental...if that's the case then please add to this discussion. Lots to discuss here- including the Shatty component- if you are willing to talk...otherwise there will be no shortage of takers for Kreider.

Thanks for the intelligent responce. The trade is a "best case scenario" type deal for the Rangers IMO. Avs have been trying to get their hands on Kreider for a couple years, he fits their style very well. Shattenkirk started his career with the Avs and they could use a vet RH defenseman for a couple years considering they just lost Berrie. Cal Makar is still way to young. If you look at the big picture the Avs add Kadri, Kreider, Shattenkirk, Donskoi. Lots of good "win-now' pieces.

If I had to guess Sackic would ask for a Buchnevich in return for Kaut. Then I would probably back off.

Kreider is a ufa rental and shatty has a nmc that impacts the expansion draft, it’s not harsh, it’s just the reality of the trade and the combined doesn’t equal the value and gamble associated to giving up kaut plus a 1st.

Plus the mention of Newhook makes kaut expendable? Those aren’t even close to being related. That’s why the rationale is ever worse. If you want to use s Newhook msjed someone expendable idea, you could justify Bowers but not kaut

Agreed but the return reflects the market right now for rentals. Sellers Market.

just curious, you think Kravtsov gets 2nd line minutes and Lias Andersson misses out on the lineup completely? Not a Rangers fan and don't really follow the team. Just curious how Andersson isn't good enough for the 4th line but Kravtsov is more than good enough. I realize he has been shaky in his first 2 seasons, but wouldn't you expect a few more games in year 3? maybe 65+?

It’s a buyers market, look at the latest roster trades, the returns have been under whelming, just look at what you got Trouba for.

You want getting a better return on Kreider that you have up for Trouba, and Hayes

I also want to add Colorado got rid of Barrie because he was a pending UFA. They want players with term to build around their young core. I doubt they give up prospects for rentals when they're are not really a serious cup contender yet. Who knows, if they're leading the division in Feb I could see it, but as an offseason move I don't think COL entertains it at all.

I think Kreider and Shattenkirk have a lot of value, just not with Colorado

Great question. Kravtsov is one of the top rated prospect right now and has much better chance to evolve into a bonafide top 6 RW/C. Andersson would be in a fourth line role for that reason. 7 8 min a night. So instead he gets sent down to AHL as a top line center where he has a chance to properly develop. Andersson was not nearly NHL-ready as originally advertised. Also the Rangers are putting and emphasis on improving the Hartford Wolfpack and Lias could be part of that solution ala Tampa/Detroit

Good thing I'm not a gm lol.

Regardless I think Kreider and Colorado are connect at the hip. The issue is that Sack man has clearly demonstrated that hes not going to overpay.

OK...now you're talking...I understand your concerns regarding Kreider being a 1 year rental- I would believe that the Avs would be a team he would want to sign with...but structuring a deal to address this uncertainty is reasonable...as far as Shatty- he is signed through 20/21...the exp draft is in 21- so don't believe he would impact who COL has to protect...As far as Bdurgs rationale- most of what he's saying seems reasonable- probably not fair to compare a D+1 prospect to a guy just drafted...if more to add there, I'll let him speak for himself.
In the end, IF Kreider is to get moved, the Avs really should be in on the discussion...the Avs have a really nice team- the window is open- and Kreider could be the difference in raising the Cup or not...don't forget- the other Cup contenders are also getting better...COL may have a bigger window than most, but it's probably in their best interest to really go all in BEFORE they have to pay McKinnon.

I do not think Avs are interested in moving promising prospects for a rental. If there is a sign and trade going on, maybe a different story, but I feel as though the Avs see a long-term window and do not need to give up Kaut for Kreider. I also do not think they would be interested in Shattenkirk, and would rather roll with Johnson and Makar on the right side.

I think possible teams to look in for regarding Kreider are CAR, FLA, EDM and MTL. Strome and Namestnikov should be moved to some of these teams as well.

I dont see the Avs wanting in on Shattenkirk even at 1/2. If Kreider was going to the AVs i think there would be a conditional aspect to the pick, so something like:
AVS Get: Kreider
NYR Get: Shane Bowers +2020 3rd RD PIC (TOR) + 2021 2nd Round Pick (becomes 2021 1st IF Kreider resigns with AVS - Lottery protected , would become 2022 1st RD Pick
