Bingo. i don't want lucic's contract on this team as much as anybody, but given how stacked the top end of the 2020 draft appears to be, and with the oilers likely not in the playoffs, that is a lottery pick i am unwilling to move. A lucic deal can be assessed next offseason. heck his back may see him have to retire ala hossa

Yep. The thing most people lose sight of is that Lucic is still getting decent results, he just isn't scoring much. If you look at all Oilers forwards stats when McDavid is off the ice you'll see that Lucic is among the best - things like GF%, CF%, etc. He doesn't produce much offense, but he doesn't give up much either. His 2018-19 results indicate that he's a decent bottom-6 player. Is that worth $6M? Of course not, but anyone trading him for 2 AHL players AND throwing in a lottery pick isn't paying attention.
