VGKMTL trades

Created by: Dwight_Schrute
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2019
Published: Jul. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Cap dump of Russell opens space to take Clarkson back.

MTL has the space and is rewarded handsomely with a big time prospect in Samorukov and a pick.

Knights get a haul back for a risky player and big cap relief.

I know the roster needs to be filled out more but this is just to get to opening night, place Clarkson on LTIR, and then call up reinforcements or make an early season trade for a third pair D in case Bouchard isn’t ready.

VGK would covet the D prospect more then MTL
we stocked the shelves on D , right know our Wing is bad depth wise past Ylonen .

we got a lot of good prospects but few sure NHL'ers and we'd covet JP
outside that all pretty good trades but MTL LD need is so last year
right now we're 1 year from Romanov's NHL debut so we'll make due with Kulak .

but right now with Shaw gone there's a huge hole in our RW

Pretty good deal for MTL there. I would certainly consider it being MB.

These are pretty good trades all around, Edmonton forward lines are much more balanced out now.

1 star. You really haven't improved the team much (if at all), Gusev is undersized and unproven, while Lekhonen isn't a top-6 player. Yet you've sent out 2 good prospects (1 VERY good prospect) and 4 picks in addition to 2 players. Lose / lose / lose.

Ya that's how i read it. Don't rob tomorrow to make incremental improvements today. Trading Samoroukov just to get rid of russell isn't a worthwhile endeavour at this point since it will take quite a bit for the oilers to be a playoff team this year. I would sooner sign a bunch of 1 year forwards and see who makes it. Burn off another year on some bad contracts and come next offseason there will be way more flexibility. Someone will be interested in russell on a 1 year deal. It means another year of pain but that was inevitable when the oilers kept chiarelli into last offseason.

Lehkonen is better than any winger we have currently, that trade is also more about getting rid of Russell, who is not worth anything close to his contract. Gusev is cant miss, I think everyone knows that, everything he has done in his career screams Panarin 2.0, wherever he plays next year he will lead the “rookie” goal scoring race as long as he’s paired with a good distributor (like Nuge).

Samorukov and Bear are expendable, I would argue Samorukov’s value will never be higher than it is right now. Klefbom, Nurse, and Larsson are all in the very earliest years of their primes, Bouchard, Jones, and Broberg are all better prospects than the two I traded away.

I think this team is significantly better, and both wingers I have signed here will still be RFA at the end of their contract, so it also makes the team stronger long term as well as the oilers have maybe two wingers (Benson and Yamo) that you can see playing as much as third line minutes two years from now.

Also, Puljujärvi has made it known that he will never play in Edmonton again and Russell is addition by subtraction, so “sending out two players” is really a pointless statement.
