Description
I'm a Blackhawks and Golden Knights fan. Sorry if I over or undervalued some of your FAs.

I just think it could be interesting if the Devils offer sheet Marner. They can afford it and still easily afford to pay Hall with expiring contracts of Greene and Simmonds. They would be cup contenders for the next 4 years, possibly longer.

If you're going to give up 4 1st rounders, might as well sign him to seven years

Does everyone think Marner is far better than Rantanen, Connor, Laine, and Point? I assume Rantanen, Connor and Laine wouldn't be automatic matches with a 10.4 x 5 offer sheet, and you would keep 2 first round picks. Thats why this Marner speculation surprises me.

I realize Point is a tougher situation due to the no tax in Florida, and Rantanen likely gets matched, although I can't say that with 100% conviction. I, biased or not as a leafs fan think Marner is better than Connor and Laine, but for less of an AAV and saving 2 first round picks, I'm not so sure.

Marner doesn't want to sign a 7 year deal. He wants a 2nd even bigger payday under the next CBA.

This roster is top contenders for all 4 years. Those end up being late 1sts. Think of it as renting Marner for 4 seasons and the price each season is a 1st.

I asked why would a team sign him for that short term, and give up 4 1st rounders .... bad deal for the team ... no GM will do that

So in short you do it because it gives you a 4 year window to very realistically win a Cup.

If it is a short-term offer sheet, it will be below $10.5 million and cost acquiring team only two 1st round picks (one 2nd, one 3rd). No team will ever give up four 1st round picks for a short-term deal.
