Michael Ferland has similar points as Kerfoot, Kapanen, and Johnsson .... they all are making around 3.5 M .... save yourself some money.

As a Kings fan I'd do it, on the condition that Lucic voids his NMC for the remainder of the contract. Trade isn't worth it if the Kings have to waste a protection slot on him. They also need the flexibility to demote him to the AHL if his play doesn't rebound.

They are RFA with less leverage. Ferland is looking for 5, I figured him being unsigned so long might have brought his price down a little but he won’t sign anywhere for less than 4.5

I’m sure he would be willing to void his right to be protected in expansion, and would modify his NTC, I can’t see him being willing to accept the AHL though.

in that case , do you really want to be paying a guy 4.75 M to regularly score less than 20 goals per season ? That is a big yikes for me..... I mean unless you got him for grit and playing the corners specifically.

I would say that the Kings would probably pass then. They just bought out Phaneuf because they couldn't afford to waste a roster spot on him with all the kids coming through the pipeline. They can't afford to have a un-demoteable contract for four more years.

Fair I guess, but LA is still in the very earliest phases of this rebuild, the time when their younger players would be breaking down the door for minutes to the point where Lucic is that big of a problem is still years away, after all there are more forward spots than D so the Phanuf case isn’t directly comparable.

They are getting a huge haul back for taking the contract and offloading some money for a year in Toffoli that they are already shopping, that’s a huge reward. The price is paying Lucic to sit in the press box.

He may even retire before he becomes a problem in their lineup/the kings are ready to contend.

He’s a 40pt player, that should increase with an increased role in the top 6 and a power play spot with Conner and Leon. The going price for forwards is typically $100k per point, so in a rising cap world, the likelihood of increased production and the oilers need for wingers in mind, I think 4.75mil is fair for him.

And yes I did put value into his board play and physical prowess, as that is one thing that Lucic is actually good for that might be missed if we got rid of him.

I can't see Lucic retiring and giving up $Millions every year. "The Plan" in LA likely has the Kings ready to compete again by 2021-22 or 2022-23 at the latest. Who knows if all will go according to plan, but that's the plan.

I don't disagree that the haul is more than fair. I just think with a lot of quality talent in the pipeline that will need raises in the coming years, they can't afford to have a buyout-proof, AHL-proof, dead roster spot taking up $4.6M in year 4½ of the rebuild.

Obviously there are exceptions, but that’s usually a pretty decent indicator.

He may not but this contract would expire at 31, he doesn’t have to many miles on that body just yet. Plus his game has minimal reliance on speed.

Not 100% sure here but if Lucic waives to go to LA, doesn’t LA have the ability to not honor the movement clauses? Obviously it might be a condition that they do in order for him to allow himself to go to LA, but if he doesn’t have a full NTC, maybe it works...

Kings say no to getting Lucic back. Face it Edmonton, you are stuck with him unless you buy him out or add a whole lot of top picks and retain a lot of salary.

The player usually will make sure the new team is going to honor the NTC before he waives it to begin with.
