2016-17 Habs (new cap)

Created by: CaptainFlynnt
Team: 2016-17 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2016
Published: Jun. 23, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Remake of an earlier team, with the cap going up 1.6 mil there will likely be more interest in okposo. Is this too much for okposo? Should the habs invest more and take a run at stamkos or should they take a cheaper option like perron?

I would be perfectly fine with all these. To be honest though, i have a feeling the other teams would rather just keep their players/picks.

I can see this happening, and add David Perron to complete the 2nd LW spot at an AAV of 3M$.

Quite possible, the deals are good for montreal not sure about the other teams but I feel NJ is the best fit for a possible desharnais trade. Roussel would be a good energy player for the bottom 6 and I've seen some dallas GM teams that made moves for Emelin but not sure if they'd part with roussel. If montreal moves Emelin they'd need to replace him with another physical D and I chose holden because he seems expendable in every Colorado armchair gm I've seen.

Personally, I'd like to see a younger player like lehkonen or hudon get a shot in the top 6 rather than sign perron if we already have okposo. If they succeed then you save lots of cap space, if they fail you could make a trade during the season or worst case scenario one of roussel, Carr, or andrighetto could move up in the lineup.

Yes definitely, good eye to catch that too. I've come to the exact same analysis you have to be honest.

i do however think Roussel is a much better commodity than Emelin. if it were to work if i were Jim Nill, Mtl would have to retain some salary on Emelin's contract. I'd be fine with that too.

Funny enough I think Desharnais would be an under the radar good pick up for NJ. Not too mention that the risk involved if it doesn't would be extremely minor for them since they would only give us a later round draft pick in return. DD is not a bad player if you have big guys supporting him. He showed that when we was sandwiched between Pacioretty and Cole a couple years back. 60pts is not peanuts. we simply don't have the space nor the size to keep DD on for another year. otherwise he'll be over-utilized by Therrien yet again.

I don't mind Holden and if the cost is only Thrower and Flynn, I'd be perfectly fine with that. Alternatively, I think replacing Emelin would be more about getting someone who can be a top 4 dman on the LH side to help with Markov's minutes and to bump Beaulieu down to 5-6 pairing with Pateryn where he belongs. We fans here in MTL are holding on to Beaulieu like he's the messiah on defence after Markov is gone but truth is, he hasn't done a damn thing to show that yet. He's barely top 4 material at this point and that is stretching it.

Pretty much agree with everything you say as well, I still have hopes bealieau can become a top 4 , he's got all the tools he just needs to figure it out... I don't think he'll be able to replace markov but he'd be a good complement to Petry and within our team he's the best option to replace markov as of now.
