Not a Hawks fan, but I feel like they should have been able to get someone like Mittelstadt. I know Sabres fans are super high on him, though.

Kinda sorta, some fans like to cling on to our own guys more than others. I feel like Buffalo fans are notorious for that more than others. But, that's along the lines of what I expected to hear.

I mean, he was drafted 8th overall, so I feel like the hype by Sabres fans is warranted. I just don't think Mitts will ever be more than a good 2C, but I'd love to be wrong. Similarly, I don't think Joki will ever be more than a good 2nd pairing RD, but I'd love to be wrong. That's why I think a swap of those two would be a lot more fair.

I agree with you on both cases. I see Mitts as a watered down Niklas Backstrom.

That's honestly a great comparison. The good thing for the Sabres is that they already have Eichel, so Mitts doesn't ever have to be a 1C caliber player. You can do a lot worse than having a future top 6 center group of Eichel and Mittelstadt

I'd agree Mittelstadt would have been a more equal trade.

Thats exactly why Sabres fans are high on him. If he comes anywhere near Backstrom and by near i mean like 70% of the player, the Sabres are doing okay at C.
