It won't be that easy to move Seabrook.

You're not getting rid of Seabrook unless you give up a premium

but doesn't this work for NJ ? They get a quality D man and I am just taking a kid, he isnt reputed to have a big potential .... in my eyes it is awash ... part of taking on a quality d man also means taking the contract.

It's not like I am stealing some talent while off loading a burden

His cap is really high with 5 more years and he is already 34. It also has a NMC on it which means he can reject a trade anytime he wants. You'd have to add a prospect and a pick to make it worthwhile. 2nd round pick and a mid to high level prospect.

Seasbrook, while not a burden today, certainly will be in a couple years.

Seabrook has the worst contract in the NHL, and it's basically no question. He has more term and value than Lucic, Eriksson, Ladd, Backes, and Alzner, and the only thing he provides at this point is leadership. His possession numbers and advanced stats are some of the worst in the league, and he has consistently proven that he makes the team worse when he is on the ice. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy - but there is no chance we are getting rid of his contract through a trade, unless some ridiculous package is sent with him. It will take at least a top prospect and a 1st in exchange for a team to take the contract, and I can't think of anyone who would want to. In other words, there is no such thing as a wash in a trade involving Seabrook.

for sake of argument lets say he waives his NMC. I like that you targeted NJ, they do need more Dmen, and with their still 20mil of cap space, they may look at this as a help today, and worry about tomorrow later. i agree it would need a sweetener of a 1st pick, i hope not a d prospect.

i know everyone like to cut him down, but i still see him as better value to contract than those guys you listed above: lucic, eriksson, backes. the cap hit is high, but if a any team can handle it it may be NJ. another option to save a top prospect is we can retain 1.8mil. making him a 5mil dman. here is my proposed trade:

TO CHI: Blake Speers

TO NJ: Seabrook with 1.8mil retained, 1st rd 2020, 4th rd 2020.

does this sound more fair?
