Not that it isn't fair Value for Nurse, it is. But they aren't giving up a 6'4", fast skating, physical, 40 point, 2 way dman who gets better every season unless you give them a really good piece back. I'd imagine they'd ask for DeBrusk... Which of course Boston would reject

You are 100 percent correct. The only way the Oilers trade Nurse is for a top 6 winger, Debrusk would have to be the player coming back.

At least Krug is good. Buffalo fans on this site want AA for Risto. AA put up more points and is better defensively than Risto.

I'll be honest, I never got the hype of Yezerman as a GM. I put him up there with Babcock level overrated

I know they never won a cup in tampa with him but he did build a pretty good team. Besides steve in Detroit is like when Cam came in in boston, everyone loves the guy

now if we had a good top pair of defenseman and you could slot risto in on a second pair with a good defensive guy then id love risto. Hes just miscast as a number 1 guy in buffalo. Im still not giving AA for him but id take him

Stammer and Hedmen were already in the organization. He made some good trades and I think that's what has saved him from not looking bad. Under Yezerman the Lightning had (9) 1st rounders

Brett Connolly - Finally cracked 30+ points after 8 years in the NHL
Slater Koekkoek - Traded for a 3rd pairing d-man and 7th rounder
Vladislav Namestnikov - Traded in the McDonaugh deal
Andrey Vasilevskiy - Good goalie, but I still don't understand how he won the Vezina. Other goalie had better numbers, Vasi just had the benefit of playing for the best team in the NHL
Jonathan Drouin - Held out and was traded for a solid return ---> The return is the only reason this isn't a fail
Anthony Deangelo - Traded for a 2nd rounder (prospect was later traded as part of the McDonaugh deal)
Brett Howden - Traded in the McDonaugh deal
Foote Brothers - TBD

Sure he drafted guys like Kucherov in the 2nd, Point in the 3rd and Palat in the 7th, but look at how many draft picks have been nothing. IDK, I just don't see what makes him such a great GM. Not saying he's a bad GM, but he's not this elite mastermind that some people want you to think.

I mean, picking up a heart trophy and art ross winner at the end of the 2nd round is a pretty big deal. He's the 1st player to win the Art Ross who was picked out of the 1st round since Marty St. Louis did it. Point is an elite 2way player and one of the best skaters in the league, and was picked 79th overall, you could argue that he's the best player in his draft year, ahead of Drai, Ekblad, and even Pastrnak. And he was picked 79th OA!!!, Cirelli in the 3rd was an absolute steal. He's so underrated, he plays like a vet but he's only 21 years old. Joseph looks like he could turn out pretty great too. Again, he was drafted in the 4th round. ANd Palat in the 7th. I just don't know any other team that has drafted this well over the past decade, do you?

And most of his trades have worked out great. Getting back Cernak for Bishop was so good in hindsight. Cernak has been excellent, and Vasilevskiy was clearly ready to be the starter. And getting back McDonagh and Miller for Namestikov, Howden, the 28th OA and 58th OA. Seems like a great trade to me. Not saying Stevie is a god, but he's definitely one of the best GMs in the league

Here's the thing though, if they thought Kucherov was that good, why wait to draft him?

Because of the chance he might stay in the KHL

yeah he didn't say this guys an art ross guy but lets wait, we know its an inexact science but when we kill them for blowing a first rounder then you have to give them credit for getting guys later who become impact guys. Steve has run a good team so he gets the credit for them being good and him good at his job. if you thnk hes overated well ok but he is certainly one of the top 6 or 7 wouldn't you say?

He's one of the better ones, but the guy is made out to be some elite GM that is in a category all his own.
