Description
A few trades to improve D, signings, and shuffling. If cap was still an issue when all said and done, maybe moving Schultz and ZAR for picks could be done to make that happen. Lmk what you think.

PIT
  1. Gusev, Nikita [RFA Rights]
VGK
  1. Riikola, Juuso
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
* Vegas asking price seems to be a 2nd and a prospect/player. They have cap issues so can't send a larger contract to them.
2.
PIT
  1. Larsson, Jacob
  2. 2020 5th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Johnson, Jack
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
* Basis of this trade I saw someone else had, and liked the idea. Anaheim has rumored interest in Johnson - if they don't then this wouldn't happen.
3.
OTT
  1. Gudbranson, Erik
  2. 2020 6th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
* Ottawa is not at the cap floor yet. Pittsburgh gets two guys who have potential, but it's more about moving the contract. Gudbranson played well, but I'm not convinced he will continue to do so. I'd rather pass him off while he has a little value still.
4.
PIT
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (MIN)
  2. 2020 4th round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Hörnqvist, Patric
  2. 2020 5th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
* I like Hornqvist, but think having him on the 3rd or 4th line is unnecessary. Some folks will still value his contribution and play him higher in the lineup.
5.
PIT
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Jarry, Tristan
Additional Details:
* Trade b/c he will have to pass waivers and I figure he'd be gone for nothing. Calgary could use three goalies to start season b/c I think Talbot won't return to form. Just a thought.

Interesting Moves, by all reports the trade for Gusev, is about the right value. though if we did that pickup I'd like to see Gusev-Malkin-Galchenyuk on a line together.

Not heard about ANA interest in JJ but if that deal was on the table certainly work considering is Larsson NHL ready yet though, from his small sample of games I'd guess he would be able to take up the third line LD role.

Not sure about dumping Guddy especially if it's to get cap space to go after Gardiner, he's awful in his own end and you couldn't pair him with Schultz it would be a complete mess in their own zone.

I agree about moving out Hornqvist and Jarry, sad to see both of them go but Jarry won't clear waivers and Horny is wasted on the third line, also given his concussion history he's one hit away from retirement. sadly I think the return for both of those guys is lower than what you're anticipating.

I'd like to see ZAR take that 4th line RW role too, I think Simon has got to prove he can play top six as he lacks the size to play a bottom six hitting role.

I would be okay with going young on the D even though that is against common practice. Don't sign Gardnier, and pair Petterson with Schultz. Rotate some of the younger guys into the mix with Larsson/Ruhwedel, and see who sticks and surprises.

There's room for movement on the right side forward group, Galchenyuk could get a crack with Malkin. I think trying him and Kahun would be smart this season b/c both will need contracts and one will click with Malkin more.

5th>JJ
Why does ANA do that
And I'd rather have Guddy for 2 that Gardiner for 6, but the return for Guddy is pretty good

It's all hypothetical right.

If I was Anaheim I wouldn't take on Johnson. However, I went that way b/c I saw a rumor of possible interest and Rutherford possibly shopping him. To get the trade done the picks could move to a higher pick for Anaheim, and/or eliminate the pick coming back (honestly 5th round and lower are sort of meh anyway).

They traded Montor who was established as a solid player for an AHLer and a 1st. I would have taken that trade.

On Guddy it kinda depends on which player he is, the decent one in PIT, or the no so much one everywhere else? I'd trade now b/c his has a higher perceived value with the short sample in PIT and you might get someone to bite. Not sure on what the FA D class for next summer is, and maybe if someone is worth targeting you pass on Gardiner.

Schultz will prob be gone after this season too, so Gardiner helps fill that hole.

Bottom six hitting role? Go back to the 80s when that might have been the case. I'll take Simon on any line if he's a good player

I like all these possible moves and don't think they are too far off. I'm still not convinced about Bjugstad at center. I think if we could use him in some form of trade package to sweeten a deal in some form/get back draft picks and then offer some draft pick trade to Nashville for Bonino and have Nick back as the 3rd line center, I think the Pens would be better off.
