Not sure why Toronto is giving up so many seconds, if the leafs acquired Gus, they would be committing to the 8-7 win every night style.

Its the Horton tax for the 2nds... this way they don't have to wait until the season starts to be cap compliant by trading Horton now they have much more flexibility with their Marner and Perlini signing.

They can be 10% over the cap until the season starts, then Horton goes on LTIR. No need to waste 3 second round picks.

They don't have to wait till the season to start to put Horton on LTIR, teams are allowed to put a contract on there in the summer if there is a reasonable expectation the player will not be able to play in the up coming season. Horton has a degenerative back issue, when they traded for him, it was very well known he'd never play hockey again. The poor dude has to do hours of physio therapy a week just to be able to walk and play with his kids. When the Marner deal is finalized, Horton will go on LTIR and there is no issue. This has been talked about so much and still people don't learn, at this point I think fans just don't want reality to be reality because it makes them feel better.
