The report is Columbus talked to Ferris about an offer sheet and Marner had no interest.

If you going all in spending four first rounders you make it seven year contract.

But let's look at the cap for for this season. You haven't signed Werenski which takes up a lot of 8.0m cap space left...plus one more forward signing.
And next year no big expiring contracts but to keep your team together......Dubois and Anderson big RFA signings, plus another two forwards. One Dman RFA signing. And the two cheap goalies need RFA contracts.
So despite gaining cap space with Panarin and Bobrosvsky leaving UFA this season, Columbus aren't in cap heaven this year or certainly next year. Well at least if a successful offer sheet for Marner goes through, and the Duchene and Dzinkel trades....CBJ can save money by not needing as many scouts scouting for entry draft.

Given who Columbus just lost to the UFA market, and the picks they lost at the last trade deadline with their acquisitions, you gotta think that losing another 4 first round picks is a risky proposition for how to move a team forward.

I also read something about how the OS was discussed with Ferris and Marner didn't seem interested. But who knows what's true coming out of the media. That said, if that is true this Marner saga just gets curiouser and curiouser... like what's the strategy here? Ferris tells Dubas that "we solicited an OS that we don't want to sign, so that means you need to pay us what they offered us..." The tactics are bordering on silly at this point, IMO.

Damn, now when PHI and BUF Offer-sheeters ( pun intended ) calmed down, CBJ and COL started to floating up......

Agree with what you said. I'm sure the Marner an Ferris would have loved to see an offer sheet that had put leverage on the Leafs . Think all the RFAs were dismayed that the only offer sheet was a "lowly " 8.45m X 5 for Aho. Maybe it proves there is a difference between a RFA and UFA in salary due to the compensation.

Mr Zone: Something completely different. I saw the movie "Let it Be" this week. Just three one us in the movie theatre on a Wednesday afternoon. You may like with the Beatles and John Lennon references .

Yeah, it must be a bit of a shock for the RFA class to see Aho's OS and then contract compared to what the media has been hyping. With Aho helping to set the market with his deal, I'm not sure how any of the rest of them hit a grand slam now, Marner included..

I've never seen the flick Let it Be, although I'll be sure to add that to my list. Sadly most of my movie watching these days is cartoons with my kids, just the stage of life that we're at. That said, Lennon was a heavy weight, as a musician and a man.
