Flames are trying to move guys for no cap back, no chance they do this even if it means Neal stays.
They made that bed for themselves.

A lot of teams are in that boat. I have always thought they'd move out Brodie for a pick or prospect and do something about Stone; either move him, send him to the AHL or buy him out.

How much do you figure they need to clear?

Frolik was a .5 point per game player last year with only 1 yr left on his contract - why on earth would we trade him for the human starfish who has 2 yrs left on his deal for the same $$. Also Neal is younger cheaper and a better bet for bounce back. No way CGY does that trade.

I live in Calgary, all I've heard the past 2 yrs on 960 is "trade Frolik". Plus Russell is more Cowboy than starfish + character + intangibles + smart old timey hockey guys in Flames org + someone needs to replace Brodie when he finally gets traded for peanuts is why.

And of course Neal needs a fresh start somewhere else. All that....

The trade Frolik talk is to free up cap space - not bring in more cap with below average players .

And even if it is peanuts when we trade Brodie we will gain valuable cap space and your answer is to bring in a much worse d man with the same cap hot for 2 more years?

With Hanifin Gio Välimäki Hamonic , Andersson and Kylington - we don't have any need for Russel whose key defensive play is to splay in front of the shooter hoping he gets hit with the puck.

You may live here in Calgary but I suspect you wear a blue jersey not a red one for suggesting this trade.

For the record, blue and orange is much easier on the eyes than red and yellow(?), plus it's much more calming, which Oil fans everywhere need ?.

Russell is a bit better than you portray, but that's okay, I get it, you know the player. More likely he ends up in Winnipeg if he gets moved at all. Lots of youth in that Flames DCorps....GMs and coaches value Russell much more than fans do.

The potential upside/downside of any deal can always be argued, so who really knows what is actually going to happen. Lots of stuff goes on based on relationships, perceived character/chemistry/fit that "hockey men" value, beyond the stuff fans see during games/player performance.

By the way, I am hearing rumblings of Sam Bennett having interest from Edmonton. I am very meh on that, what is your opinion of his value (what would you think Calgary would get back in a trade)?

What do you think of the trade?

Lucic is younger than Neal, so there's that.....
