Stop it. Either Marner is signed to reasonable deal or Marner is gone.
I have spoken to many Leaf fans and they all told me they would rather have Nylander on their team over Marner. They believe Nylander is a far better player than Marner and showed me their advanced stats. I must admit, the numbers do not lie.
Nylander’s career Corsi For is 54%, Marner’s is 40%.
For these players listed below, they all have a higher goals per 60 ratio when playing with Nylander compared to playing with Marner.
Kadri has a .86 G/60 playing with Nylander and .85 playing with Marner.
Van Riemsdyk has a 1.33 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.18 with Marner.
Tavares has a 6.27 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.53 with Marner.
Matthews has a 1.53 G/60 with Nylander and a 1.04 with Marner.
Leaf fans believe that these stats suggest Nylander is a far more talented and capable individual player compared to Marner, plus he has a better all round game. Therefore there is no reason for Marner to get more money than Nylander, any offer sheet above 5 million dollars the Leafs should not bother matching. Many have told me that Marner is actually nothing special, just another role player who gets carried by the likes of Tavares and Kadri making him good great. In reality, Mitch Marner’s closest comparable is Conor Sheary. What’d you think?
