LOL so many people think Laine's overrated ... so how can he be overrated?

For the most part these lists are different. But Coyle and Ristolainen have been picked 3 times each ... maybe not actually overrated?

His only good trait is his shot. He's poor defensively, doesn't drive play or possession, and isn't a great skater. He scores a lot, which means he's the most valuable type of overrated and teams would love to have him, but he's still overrated nonetheless. He's still young, so he's got time to round out his game, but one would expect to see more progress after three full seasons.

And I know Wilson is probably the most hated player in the game, but that doesn't mean he can't be overrated, because lots of people say "I hate him but he's really good". He is a really good player but not as good as some think IMO.

I would think so, but a lot of people would still say he's elite. Putting up points can mask a lot of players deficiencies. He's like a forward version of Ristolainen.

I'm just saying it seems like almost everyone says he's overrated. If everyone thinks he's overrated, is he actually overrated?

see lots of names but no reasons. granted, thinking of a player on each team is a lot. don't pay attention that much.

Anaheim: Henquire. was going to say silfverberg but yikes at a little under 6 million for a 40 point guy.
Toronto: this is hard since a few guys i would've considered left. gonna say Dermott. the impression i get from some people is that he's already a top 2 defensemen.
Tampa: Yanni Gourde; overrated by management. feel like he got too much for too long. tampa has way too many 2nd/3rd line forwards on ntcs right now and adding another one wasn't the best idea.

Vlasic: A year ago everyone was calling him one of the most underrated players in the league, certainly on D. Now, after a year of underrated talk he's now probably overrated. It's def. a fine line between being over/underrated. J.G. Pageau had an excellent playoff run w/ OTT a couple seasons ago during which he sorta came outta nowhere. Now, he's barely hanging on w/ the league's worst team and def. overrated.

A lot of people in the media + his coaching staff overrate him. 5 people in a forum saying he's overrated doesn't mean that's the general consensus.

Since he plays top minutes and puts up 40+ points a year, they generally view him as a legitimate top pairing defenseman.

Plenty of people see him capable of a good top four role, but Doc is right in saying that the general media views him as a top pairing guy.

I guess i don't know a lot of the opinions. I think he's a 2nd pairing defenseman with top pairing potential. But that's a question mark.

The biggest issue was that he was thrust into a role he clearly wasn't ready for at the time. It clearly hurt his development and he needs to be put in a place where he can be a puck moving, second pair defenseman. That's where he can thrive right now
