The biggest issue was that he was thrust into a role he clearly wasn't ready for at the time. It clearly hurt his development and he needs to be put in a place where he can be a puck moving, second pair defenseman. That's where he can thrive right now

What about in Edmonton? Their best RHD right now is Larsson. Ristolainen could maybe play 2nd pair there. Their 2nd best RHD right now is probably Russell or Benning (I believe they both shoot right?). They need a d-man though. They only have 3 real top-4 d-men in Klefbom, Larsson, and Nurse IMO.

There's definitely a fit there, the toughest part just becomes figuring out the return. RNH would be a non-starter for the Oilers, and he'd be the piece of interest. Maybe Pulju could get involved, but it's tough to see his true value right now. I doubt the Sabres would just want draft picks

No, Russell is an LHD, never mind. So, the Oilers could really use a RHD. I love how many people act like Larsson isn't even good just 'cause he got traded for Hall. Still, though, their defence isn't good enough if you ask me. I think blocking shots is an underrated part of the game and Russell is a shot blocker. He's a very underrated d-man IMO but he's still a bottom pairing defenseman.

I think they'd need a forward. Some may mention the possibility of Risto+ for RNH but i don't see why Edmonton would move him. Scoring is their biggest problem. Maybe something involving Puljujarvi but he's too big a risk. I wouldn't move Risto straight up for Pulju as the Sabres.

Russell shoots left, but has played on the right side pretty much his whole stint in Edmonton. I think Ristolainen would be a good fit on the second pair with Nurse. The problem is Edmonton doesn't have the cap space to take on Ristolainen; they would need to move out a chunk of salary.

Which Buffalo could problably take. Maybe Russell? The problem is, what else would be going to Buffalo? Buffalo needs scoring and Edmonton doesn't have scoring lol.

While I can see your point with Petterson, I think Myers being heralded as the blue line Messiah gets my vote.

Why does nobody understand that overrated and overpaid are not the same thing?

Some Vancouver media is declaring him to be a guy who is "in the norris conversation" and immediately making them a playoff contender.

I've never seen anyone saying that. Just 'cause they don't know who he is and he just signed with the Canucks so they think because he got 6M that he's a top pairing guy. But for the most part people think he's no more than a 4/5 guy. I think he's a #4.

Making him overrated. Petterson has for the most part backed up all the talk.

Who has said Myers is a top pairing d-man? The Canucks think he is and maybe some of the Vancouver media, but most people see him as a 4/5 guy.

But most other people say it's a bad contract. And there are a lot of Canucks fans who aren't too happy about it, right?

Something you need to realize is that there will never be consensus opinions on a player. Certain media members and fan bases are going to like a certain player more than another. This is literally us taking what the general perspective is on a player, and seeing which ones we think those perspectives are too high on. Trying to pick apart whether or not a player can be considered overrated if a decent amount of people think that is pointless

But most people that i've seen talk about it seem to think that's a bad cap hit for Myers. The poll on CF got more votes for it not being a good signing, and when i asked the question of which pairing d-man he was, i said 2nd pair and i got a good mix of votes between 2nd and 3rd pair. People can think he's overrated, but his contract doesn't mean he's overrated. By that logic Lucic is overrated because of his contract. If anything he's underrated because he's actually a decent 4th liner in the NHL. If you think he's an AHL level player then maybe you could say he's overrated. If you think Myers is a 7th D you could say he's overrated.

I'm saying everyone thinks he's overrated. If everyone thinks he's overrated, then not all those people are right. Maybe one or two of them, but it seems like everyone thinks he's overrated.
