Yzerman is not an idiot; he would do that trade instantly. Athanasiou is not worth all that. And Bergevin would never offer that.

Quantity does not equal quality. 30 goal scorers don’t grow on trees. Worth more than a bunch of mediocre picks , a bottom 6 forward, a 3rd string goalie. Noah and the 2nd is not enough, the rest is just a pile of distraction from the fact there is no value there.

I don't think it makes sense from Detroit's point of view.

Detroit is in a building stage. Good depth has zero value to them so only higher valuable pieces carry any value. Juulsen and the second aren't enough

One 30 goal season does not make him a consistent 30 goal scorer. Jiri Hudler also had one 30 goal season, but noone mistook him for Paccioretty. Again, Athanasiou is overrated. He was second in O zone starts and still managed to let the opposition outscore and outchance him while he was on the ice. He has speed, and was able to score off the rush a bunch this year, but on a terrible Wings team, he was one of the worst defensively and was part of the problem. I'd say if he starts to take his defensive assignments more seriously, his points will go down down drastically.

So you don't want to see AA on the Habs?

No, our center situation is looking really good right now, and defensively any of our forwards beat AA hands down.

While AA defense isn't great it has gotten a lot better from a year ago but every forward on your team isn't very accurate. Now I do have to agree with you that this trade will never happen.

It is actually very accurate. AA: 44.93 CF%; 44.89 SCF%; 44.53 HDCF% ...the only forward on the Habs worse than AA defensively was Peca: 45.00CF%; 40.42 SCF%; 39.81 HDCF% and he spent most of the year in the stands.

Come on does Drouin even know what the defensive zone looks like? Hudon shouldn't even be in the NHL but he is in almost every trade even though Montreal isn't even going to resign him. Domi has almost double the giveaways AA has. But your stats show the whole picture.

Be that as it may. Those players that you mention make up for defensive deficiencies with offense. The goal is to outchance and outscore the opposition. These stats show that AA doesn't produce enough offense to make up for his defensive deficiencies.
