In his brief time with the Marlies I was really impressed with Carcone. I was super sceptical after he was all we received back in the trade for Josh Leivo - an undrafted player who’d had a hot start to the season but really had shown little in 2.5 seasons of pro hockey to indicate he’d ever make the NHL. But against my own bias, I warmed up to him, as did Sheldon Keefe (Marlies head coach) who used him in all-situations (PP1/PK1/Top-6).

He brings speed, particularly a strong first step, and a really strong work ethic and tenacity to play hard every shift. His skill isn’t elite by any means but if he plays like he did thoughout 2018/2019 (75gp-26-28-54 incl 3 playoff rounds), I think he could contribute as a bottom-6 winger at the NHL level (or a Top-6 winger for any AHL team lucky to have him). Belleville fans (and maybe Ottawa ones too) are going to really like Carcone.

That’s what he did to deserve this 2y minimum wage contract. IMHO. ??‍♀️

tears of joy Solid analysis ... I like him too ... but my comment was more along the lines of:

"What did Carcone do wrong to deserve the punishment of playing in Ottawa ... ?"

Oooooops. Yes, well, I can’t explain *that*. Connor Brown has the audacity to make 3% of the salary cap and bad puck luck. Carcone must have been Ottawa’s target to make that deal go through. No Carcone, no cannoli.

They also could have just done the deal without including Carcone for Luchuk + 3rd (seems like a small overpay for Carcone straight up).

BTW what is your opinion on Luchuk?

He doesn't seem like anything special but I've never watched him play.
