Money isn't a surprise. Overpayment but they didn't have much choice. Expected a term of 2 or 3 years though

I think this is a perfect deal for him. Give him a year to dip his toes in, and come back the next year.

it's an over payment, at least they only did it one year.

He had one decent, I won't even call it good, one decent year and that's it. It's been low production since. Don't get me wrong 3.25 isn't star player signing, but you'd at least like to see a guy making that much be somewhere between 15-20 goals at the minimum.

I like this term and money. I think with a new team Andre could turn around

So, he signed his QO. Which tells me that their offer with term must have been a lot lower.

One year deal so it doesn't really matter, but this is a put up or shut up contract for him. If he can't step up his offensive production this year, he's not going be getting another deal like this.

I want to be wrong about Burakovsky, but I really don't think he's going to move the needle this season.

But they traded a 45 point C/LW to Toronto ... who signed him for $3,500,000 x 4 years.
And gave up a 2nd + 3rd for this 25 point LW ... then signed him for $3,250,000 x 1 year.

This basically works out too:

Barrie ($2,750,000 retained)
Kerfoot ($3,500,000 x 4)
Kosmchuk ($750,000 x 1)
Round 2 Pick
Round 3 Pick
Round 6 Pick

CAP-HIT OUT = $7,000,000
POINTS OUT = 101

FOR:

Burakovsky ($3,250,000 x 1)
Kadri ($4,500,000 x 3)
Rosen ($750,000 x 2)
Round 3 Pick

CAP-HIT IN = $11,250,000
POINTS IN = 69

That's gonna be a no from me dog ...

Expiry status says RFA.

The term is okay as it gives the team some control next year, and I can see him line up next to Kadri to start the season. Good low risk signing for COL. Both of those players are going to play to prove something.

What surprises me is how few people are talking about this deal.

He may be an RFA but unless his production increases by 50% or more he’s not going to receive a QO, thus making him a UFA anyways. I was shocked he got offered a QO at all (and that a team paid a 2nd & 3rd for that ‘privilege’).

In a broader context - one where COL could have signed him as a UFA when WSH inevitability was going to no-QO him, signing for less AND retaining their picks - this deal stinks.

The Caps qualified him so they were forced to trade for Bura in order to get his rights

He's always had the skill. He just never got the trust of the coaches to be able to run with it. He's basically been guaranteed a spot in the top six (at least to start the year), so hopefully he gets himself into a bit more of a rhythm and become the 20 goal scorer we all thought he'd be with the Caps.

Oh yes, that’s right. It was right before the trade went down. I figured that they only qualified him so to be able to cash in on whatever trade value he had. I was amazed at the return, as any suiter would be starting at his 18/19 salary and moving on up in terms of contract negotiations. But Colorado has ample cap space so they were able to do it. *Should* they have done it tho? That’s a whole other kettle of fish.
