All Time Finland Line Up

Created by: Agent_Of_R9
Team: 2019-20 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2019
Published: Jul. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am back at it with another all time fantasy lineup. This time I will be featuring Finland, the runner up of the 2006 Olympic Games. Despite their horrific performance at the 2016 World Cup, their country has developed many young talents such as Rantanen, Laine and Aho. However, featuring on this team will be their legendary players. Even with Jakko Jalonen’s recent success, I’ve decided to go with Harry Lindblad behind the bench. Feel free to comment on my selections!

Aki Berg established himself as an established shutdown defenseman with the Toronto Maple Leafs. However he didn’t play long enough plus was unable to reach his full potential as a top 3 draft pick. I’m not sure if there’s someone you would put him over on this team, but considering his decorated career with the Finland National Team, maybe he should get the nod.

I’d say of every country, this lineup will look the most different in 20 years

I'd take 5 years or whatever it is of constant top-10C Barkov over Valtteri Filppula. Like even if Barkov retired today he'd made more of an impact

I might have to put Joni Pitkanen in there over Lydman. Lydman was solid, but before Pitkanen fell off in his final couple years he was a very solid two-way defenseman

Yeah I would agree that Barkov is a better player than Filpulla. However keep in mind Filpulla in his days with the Wing and Bolts at his peak was a very good player, so I will put him there for now and when in a few seasons, Barkov will be there.

Finland has been developing a lot of young talent. Guys like Barkov, Laine, Rantanen, Aho and Kakko up front. Plus Lindell, Heiskanen and Jokiharju on defense. Some real quality.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was actually considering who to put between Lydman and Pitkanen, but doing my research many suggested Lydman was the better choice. Pitkanen was really underrated though, no doubt.

I'm just saying even peak Filppula doesn't touch in the realm of Barkov. If they both retire today I'd value Barkov much more highly

Of course! There’s no doubt that Barkov now is better than peak Filpulla. However, Barkov is still too young to make my team. In your opinion who is better between peak Malkin and current Barkov?

Oh man.. I feel like peak Malkin (like one given game) is the best player since Lemieux, or at least before McDavid came. I'm probably to young to recall Malkin's best single season, by the numbers it looks like 07-08, but I think his 16/17 season is better than anything Barkov has produced yet as well. I think Malkin comes off a poor season but I'm unsure if Barkov is better overall yet.

So no, I think they're really close now, peak Malkin is a different kind of scary. I think Malkin is probably a top 50 player of all time at least

Yeah for me Geno’s peak was from 2008-2012, although he was a very dominant player for the last 10 years minus the most recent season. Right now, Barkov is way better, a top 5 centre in the league. I will be unveiling my list of top 100 greatest hockey players in a few days on CapFriendly and so far, I’ve got Geno ranked at 67th.

Which playoff performance would you guys say was better, Evgeni Malkin in 2009 or Ryan O’Reilly in 2019?

Malkin, O’Reilly was horrible in the Dallas series

I wouldn’t say horrible, he was just average. Although the way Malkin tore apart that Hurricanes team in the conference finals was just magisterial.

Cool! I mean I still think Malkin has a case for top 5C, but it's really tight with him slipping as MacKinnon exploded like a season ago, and obviously Matthews/Bergy/Barkov etc being there. I also think Malkin's 17/18 was great, and in terms of WAR it's actually above any of Barkov's seasons so far - if you care about that stuff. A dark horse in any topC discussion is Couturier imo, I have no idea where to place him, but between him being defensively sound and now apparently a ppg player I think he has a great case for one of the best.

Couturier should be top 10 at this point at this point of his career, Malkin isn’t even considered a top 20 centre in the game anymore.

I agree Couts is at least top 10, I don't know what motivates your execution of Malkin though. This season was rough for him, but he was a beast last year

Nah he was legitimately bad but I’m pretty sure he cracked his rib at the end of the Winnipeg series. He had some random assists here and there but he got caved in.

I have always thought Saku was better than Mikko. I've never looked at the stats to verify this, but that's just me going on the eye test.
