Make no sense lol. If smith had 1 year left I’d be down with it but that extra year paying a bottom 6 forward that much could cause issues in cap space to sign cat and strome. Eh move for the now cuz we have space to sign perlini but a clusterf**k of forwards now.
The Sens now have three third line centers.
Good move though, Anisimov is an upgrade on Smith and could get a second or third as a rental. It also helps Ottawa get to the floor.

I get why this had to happen, but man I am really going to miss Zack Smith. 600 games over 10 years. Ottawa loses a big part of our community, and a huge leader in the room.
Sens get the better player with the higher AAV that they have to pay less. AA also has no trade protection so he is easier to trade. Ottawa wins this in every sense
If this was the best Stan could get...why didn't he just waive AA first? You could have "seen the market speak" and maybe not even had a $3.25M cap hit. Stan would have known for sure rather than taking on Smith. While Smith is $1.25M less...he's also a worse player with a modified NTC.
Where Chicago unloads a 4.5 mil Anisamov for Smith, Ottawa could have asked for a slight bit more, ie, Highmore or somebody to make up for the diff in $$.
I give CHI the slight, very slight edge b/c of the extra cap space. But Anisimov is def. still a way better player. Maybe CHI is gonna make a play for a UFA???

Ottawa didn't need help getting to the floor, after signing all their own RFA they would hit the floor.
