Wish it was looong term because he's going to make bank coming out of this deal. But whatever, I'll enjoy the next 2 years of him out performing this deal by a mile.

I think it benefits both parties. You save money this year and next, and when a bunch of money comes off of the books in the next two seasons, you can pay him.

Yeah he'll need to be re-signed when Ovi signs his new contract which will be lower than his current one. So whatever money you save from Ovi just give it to Vrana.

Like Backstrom's payraise, or Ovi's, or Holtby's? What money is coming off the books? The only hope you have is Samsonov coming over and being better than Holtby and possibly saving enough to cover the other payraises

A lot honestly isn't. But guys like Hagelin, Panik, Hathaway, Orlov, and Kempny will probably be moved while McMichael, Leason, Alexeyev, Fehervary, and Hobbs will probably be competing for vital positions. Not to mention guys like Gersich, Malenstyn, AJF, Protas, Sutter, Geisser will all have developed a lot and will be competing for bottom line/pairing spots. Tons of small salary shedding can happen in the next two years.

Fishman and Mac are a great team. I have zero concern in 2 years.

Holtby might be walking after the year, which would make enough room (not really a fan of this happening), unless the Caps bomb, then they could trade him and get a return.
