The Boys Are Back In Town

Description
What do we do now.

This is assuming matching an offer sheet & what I think to be worst case, as I don’t think there’s a team that gives up four 1st rounders for Marner for the term Marner wants. More likely to see lower tier offer. And yes, we’re probably better off changing around 3/4 lines & previously trying out the youngins’ prior to Dermott/Hyman coming off the LTIR. Just wasn’t purpose of the GM.

Based on no further trades.
Based on when Hyman & Dermott return to roster.
Based on Marner on roster via having to previously match a 5yr/$10,500,000 offer sheet
Skating with a 22 man roster.
Unlikely to ever see a 23 man roster.
Would require to likely have to juggle between 21-22 to shuffle 3rd/4th lines & 3rd pairing.
I’d like to see them try the D pairing, especially if we still have Ceci & depending on his play leading up to Dermott return.

My thoughts are he gets signed for less than 10mil (hopefully longer than 5yr) & no offer sheet takes place, there’s barely a team that could handle Matthews money @ short term (what Paul & co are requesting) & do we really expect Melnyk to grant that offer?

I never understood the Nick Shore signing? Is he really a better option over Goat for 4th C and making 75k more?

My understanding is until Marner has been signed, his (Shore) signing is a gentleman’s agreement only.

I could be wrong, someone here I’m sure could prove that if need be, but I don’t think Shore, Gravel, or Agostino are officially signed, yet.

If on roster, I think you will see a mixture of Spezza/Goat/Shore in the 4C this year.

This is way the Leafs, MLSE can do with their financial power. Sign Shore for 750,000 and whether he is a Leaf or Marlie he gets his money. If a Marlie his salary doesn't affect the cap. Good deal for Shore an iffy NHLer, he's getting nice money in either league. If waived other teams might not want to claim him knowing if they do sent to the minors he he clears waivers, he's expensive.
Spezza might more of 4th liner right winger and Plumber is right it's, probably Gauthier/Shore at four/five C

But knowing Dubas, he'll be too afraid to sent Shore to the minors, look at Marincin last year, he almost earned his full cap hit on the Leafs because Dubas didn't want to lose him on waivers, I hope Dubas doesn't hold onto these fears this season, because Cap hit max will be touch and go all year long.

Nick Shore will 100% be centering the PK outside of your 1st line and Kapanen everyone else sucks at killing penalties (defense excluded).

Marincin didn't hurt the cap that much...after all who could the Leafs have brought up that was better. But having guys sitting for weeks on end and expecting them to be NHL ready when suddenly injected into the lineup doesn't seem to be working. IF possible I would like to rotation of the bottom three guys in fan out the lineup but that doesn't happen often for any team.

You don’t think Spezza is going to see special teams? Pretty sure Leafs picked up a good PK faceoff taker in Spezza.

Leafs seemed to focus around C depth a tad bit after the bs of rotating Nylander into 3C during playoffs when Kadri was suspended.
