Cheaper, need to shed cap to get ready for next year... also at the end of this season, Saad has a M-NTC that kicks in need to get rid of him before that. Plus the chemistry of the 12-17-11 line last year down the stretch was fantastic.

I'd honestly prefer to try and extend Saad for a reasonable rate...otherwise maybe he's a cap casualty. I believe that clause kicks in July 1st 2020...after the draft...so who knows. Lots can happen in a year.

Problem with waiting until the draft is because at that point everyone knows you are just getting rid of his salary and the return is minimal and might even cost the Hawks a prospect to get rid of Saad. By trading him now his value is much higher. As for extending Saad, that is not going to happen unless he takes a BIG pay cut. Hawks need to sign 12-17 and make a decision on a goalie and then decide if they have enough left over to pay Gus. Saad just does not fit unless you find a GM willing to take Seabrook or Keith away.

I just don't agree with this, which is ok. His play will dictate his trade value more than anything else in my opinion...which is why I'd prefer to keep him this year. He's a solid piece and wanted a $6M salary because his trajectory as a 21 year old had a VERY high ceiling. He played next to Toews and Hossa...so I get why he was traded and I get why CBJ took a flyer on him. Maybe Saad is the type of player that you keep until his contract is up...and then both parties makes decisions that are best for the Hawks and for Saad. Besides, I really do think that Stan's going to want to play Dach. Saad and Shaw are great compliments.
