Vegas will only move money to sign Gusev or get a player back

Description
All the Armchair-GMs looking to make trades with Vegas to get Gusev & give VGK cap relief are silly, unless those trades include an NHL 2nd/3rd Winger going back. In my example here, I pick Bertuzzi from Detroit. But similar players at similar ages would suffice (20 goal scorer wingers, 24-27 years old).

That's fine. I'm just trying to make a point that if VGK moves at least $2.8M in money, then they are going to sign Gusev. If they don't, they will trade Gusev. There's no both unless a solid 2nd / 3rd line winger goes back.

I’m not sure how much money Gusev wants not how much he deserves.

But maybe there’s a deal to be had involving Erne or something idk

Problem is VGK has zero leverage. If they don't move him he gets an OS the day teams can no longer go over the cap by 10%

I think you are expecting to much value in terms of known commodities. Expect solid futures if you want the most value.

He wants 4m per which is fair and TBL can't make that happen.

Vegas is in no position to dictate anything here. Don't like the offers? Fine keep him. Good luck keeping him at the $$ he's looking to get and stay under the cap without moving another solid piece of their team. Alright bye!

No team in their right mind is sending a solid 2nd/3rd line winger back for a guy who hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet. Teams are supposed to trade a player they know whose already scoring 20 goals for a guy they have no idea about? Get out of here with that non sense....

I will bet my bottom dollar they won't get any player making over 1M back in trade because the main goal for Vegas is to cut cost while getting as much value back as possible. They want picks and prospects. Not ready now players who already cost as much as Gusev will cost them or else, why not just sign Gusev then....

This AGM makes ZERO sense.

Gusev is not eligible for an offer sheet. Already determined by NHL.

He can:
1) Sign with VGK (or a team VGK trades him to)
2) Wait a year and become a UFA
3) Sign with KHL and be declared a defected player under CBA - will be a UFA in 2 years.

On the flip side, Gusev can force the issue by:

1) Signing the 1-year deal VGK has offered him now or after the start of the season (after 10% is off).
2) Sitting out while the season starts and demand a trade.

Due to NHL CBA, his cap hit increases as an RFA (see Nylander cap hit for Toronto) as the season goes on. That prevents VGK from accruing cap space by him sitting out in order to sign him while his rights are restricted.

He's not a Group 2 RFA, which are the only ones who can receive offer sheets. Nor is he arbitration eligible. CapFriendly confirmed this on some tweets.

Because the KHL is not an affiliated league, his professional years there earn him no credit in the NHL. He's not played the required years or number of games yet.

You say they don't need to trade Gusov and get cap relief, but that is exactly what you did by including Reaves. Shedding Reaves' contract and replacing it with a cheaper one is the only reason you were able to get under the cap.
Here's the situation without including "cap relief".
Vegas has to add some D-men to the roster. You did that by signing two to cheap contracts and recalled another while sending down Zykov. No big deal on Zykov. He'll clear waivers.
That still leaves you over 300K over the cap even with trading Gusov for just picks and prospects. And even if you get under the cap, there is no room to call anyone up in case of an injury.
There are two scenarios that make things work.
Trade Gusov and Reaves or another bigger contract (cap relief) for little to no cap hit in return or trade Eakins and Reaves for little or no return and keep Gusov.
That's the decision they are facing.

For some reason I though I saw him being Group 4 RFA, didn't realize he was 10.2(c)

Either way VGK has little leverage.

I'm saying that if they are going to trade Gusev, they want a player back in return. Odds are they still need to make some cap space to do it. But I don't predict they will give up Gusev for just picks and prospects.

Cody Glass is better than any forward they are going to get in return, so they'd be better off just moving Reaves and bringing up Glass. If they are going to get a player in return for Gusov they would be best served with a cheap D-Man.

Possibly. But if they keep Clarkson on LTIR, then Glass' rookie performance bonuses have to hit this year if he's brought up. He would be a $1.7M player against the cap, not $850K. So they probably still have to move some money or the Clarkson contract anyways.

I'm not positive, but I believe if they call him up before placing Clarkson on LTIR on the last day of training camp his bonus could still be moved to next year. I think it is only players recalled afterwards that have to hit this year.
