Trade for Gusev amp Eakin for Zucker

Created by: CJBear71
Team: 2019-20 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2019
Published: Jul. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Again, if VGK is going to trade Gusev, they are going to want a scoring winger back. If they get MINN to take some extra money in Reaves, it can happen, and then MINN gets cap relief after 1 year.

You can figure out if a few picks have to be traded on each side to balance it a bit more. But getting Gusev and Eakin, taking the term of Zucker off MINN's hands, and getting them to take Reaves contract for 1 year seemed fair.

Not a chance but feel free continuing on living in this fantasy world of yours.

You are going to be so annoyed when he's traded for a 2nd rounder and a prospect. I don't know why. That would actually be a great return for him and Vegas.

Well it appears that Minnesota has already tried to trade Zucker twice - once at the trade deadline and once in the off-season. Not exactly the ideal situation to keep him on the team. But VGK doesn't have to trade Gusev at all in my opinion. They can pay the ransom (high picks) to move the money they need to sign him. They have two extra 2nd round picks over the next two drafts to work with that they can use to pay teams to take Reaves or Holden off their plate.

This seems to make some sense for both teams, but who knows if GMs make deals that make sense.

Gallant has already tarnished the relationship and has a poor track record with Ship as well.

"taking the term of Zucker off of Minn's hands"

Is Zucker considered a cap dump now? lol

I have no idea why Minnesota has tried to trade a 27-year old player who has scored 76 goals over 3 seasons. But they've tried to do it twice now.

You may be right. A lot of us in VGK land are getting the feeling that Gallant is the one who doesn't want him, not McPhee.

I don't get it either but with the addition of Zuccarello maybe they'll keep him now.

They aren't trading Zucker because they hate his face......... They're trying to get younger and cheaper. EThose 3 guys are either the same age or older and are more expensive combined than Zucker.

Minny not trading Zucker is because they are being selective on the return they want. because their is a demand for a guy whose put up his numbers. The same reason the reported asking price for Gusev is a 2nd rounder and a prospect which as of now, no one has ponied up for.

I'm not against keeping Gusev, trading Gusev or any other scenario. My only beef is with the expectations/reasoning behind it. Vegas is in no position to start dictating terms. Just like with Miller and Haula, they have to sell players short because they have no choice to be under the cap.

If you want Gusev so bad, fine. That's means you have to trade at least 1 of Holden, Reaves and Eakin etc. That's all. Expecting to trade Gusev and get a return better than Gusev but for a cheaper price is nonsensical.

Maybe. But they seem a little wing-heavy and adding in Eakin gives them some more center depth.

Jesse Granger of the Athletic had a story that most of the prime KHL players who come over translate their KHL scoring at an 80% rate in the NHL. Everyone agrees that Gusev is the best non-amateur, non-NHL player in the world right now. He was basically the top player / tied for the top player at the Olympics and World Championships. Tournaments with bigger ice but a lot of NHL talent playing in them. He is likely to be Zucker's equal at least, and an elite level player at best.

Eakin is a proven 20 goal scorer - 40 pts - good 3rd line center. Can fill in at 2nd line center in a pinch. Lotta value and maybe you can resign him.

I really think adding that up plus taking Reaves is equal to getting Zucker back for VGK. But, I wouldn't be opposed to VGK adding a 2nd to balance it out, with taking back a 4th or 5th.

I think the offer for Zucker is decent. What do you think Zucker's trade value is? consider Gusev a 2nd round and a prospect, Eakin is a 3rd or 2nd rounder, and Reaves is worth maybe a 7th rounder but probably just salary. Do you think Zucker is worth a 2nd, 3rd, and a prospect or is he worth more than that? Zucker is a great player, but is one great player better than 2 good players and a serviceable 3rd player?

A lot of extra cap coming back and players Minny doesn't need. That's the problem. Minny wants to Zucker for younger piece. Not 3 older ones. Its not about what Zucker's worth. Its about what Minny needs.

Minnesota couldn't use a solid 3rd line center, a top 6 winger, and a 4th line enforcer? Seems like they could use a shakeup.
