William Nylander is a better individual player than Mitch Marner. So far in their careers, Nylander’s Corsi for is 54% whereas Marner’s is only 40%. In fact, each star forward on the Leafs found more success playing with Nylander than with Marner. Kadri has a .86 G/60 playing with Nylander and .85 playing with Marner. Van Riemsdyk has a 1.33 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.18 with Marner. Tavares has a 6.27 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.53 with Marner. Matthews has a 1.53 G/60 with Nylander and a 1.04 with Marner. Just stop for a moment and take a look at Marner’s possession metrics and advanced stats: https://imgur.com/gallery/nVdJHWP
https://imgur.com/a/j04H3vO He literally gets carried by Tavares and is only effective when JT is holding his hand.

Across the past 3 seasons at 5v5 in comparison to Marner, Nylander has a higher...

iCF60: 15.03 vs 14.44
iFF60: 11.33 vs 10.64
iSF60: 7.94 vs 7.37
ixG60: 0.78 vs 0.66

So literally the only A3Z metric that rates Marner higher than Nylander across the past 3 years is...nothing.

I let Marner wait till December if that's how much it's gonna cost us. He shouldn't be getting paid more than Tavares.

I dont recall Tavares, JVR playing with Nylander and I also dont recall AM34 and Mitch playing together for an extended period of time.

They didn’t play extended time but Willy is far more capable of finding success with any linemates compared to Marner. Marner is a one tricky pony who needs elite centres such as Tavares and Kadri to carry him.

He made Mitch Marner look good and that’s not an easy thing to do.

One think all the players who played with Marner have in common, they all set career highs. Bozak (55 pts), Kadri (32 goals), JVR (36 goals), Hyman (21 goals), Tavares (47 goals). But yes believe Rahef's garbage that Marner = Sheary. LOL

and then there was last year. where Nylander came in and played 57 games and got 27 points, while Marner played 82 and scored 94. Which is where your argument died.

Garbage? I just gave you legit facts consisting of advanced statistics and possession metrics to prove my point while you are just using the eye test! If you don’t want to learn the truth, then that’s on you.

I disagree. In ice hockey, nothing beats advanced stats and possession metrics because they provide straight facts. I am someone who’s played competitive ice hockey for a decade, but even I know that. Factors such as the eye test and basic stats for example points per game are not an accurate way to assess talent and skill. Marner away from Tavares is a complete waste of space on the ice. He doesn’t do anything, the exact same kind of player as Sheary who waits for elite centres to hold their hand.

If Marner sits it will be for the whole year, as the leafs can't afford the pro-rated salary hit.

yeah none of that is true.
Corsi while being a useful stat means nothing compared to how many goals are going in vs how many are going against while a player is on the ice. Anyone can play keep away with the puck, it doesn't mean they can score.

why not trade Muzzin for a defenceman / defencemen who can take up 2 roster spots? Say trade him for 2 players who are on ELCs and NHL ready to get more cap space

Realistically:

Set Marner an opening day deadline on a fair 10x6ish deal. If he doesn't take it, you trade him. And make sure he knows he's gone if he doesn't take it.

Zero chance I let him sit out a day of this upcoming season.
