That Marner contract...if he declined a $12,5Mx7 deal, why on earth would he take a $9,5x8...

I doubt the Leafs would want Brandon Sutter as part of the return but it’s interesting either way.

Agreed, this is the first Marner trade that I've seen on here that makes at least some sense for both sides, but TOR doesn't want Sutter. Skeptical that he takes that money (gonna have to give him more), and VAN could possibly offer a little less, but overall not a bad take.

Disagree. Marner is a generational player and makes everyone he plays with have career stats whether in the NHL or junior hockey. Boeser is a one dimentional goal scorer only and does not know how to play defence.

Woo and Boeser alone carry a ton of value...I feel like those two and a 2020 first gets it done. It’s a very intriguing what if scenario nonetheless.

Ok pal

Talking about junior hockey is like putting stuff from high school on your resume.

Who cares?

Do yourself a favour. Google Mitch Marner Awards Won with London Knights and then give your head a shake. Then name me one current player that has ever won the amount of trophies Marner won in his last year of junior hockey. If you ar still not a believer, then ask yourself why Tavares requested he play with Marner if he was to sign with the Leafs as a UFA.

Crosby is a generational talent. McDavid is a generational talent. Marner is not a generational talent, sorry to have to be the one to tell you.

Then why don't TML fans on here think he's worth 11-12 mil a year????

This is actually reasonable, think Leafs would want Tanev instead of Sutter. Nice idea tho. Marner will reject that contract.

This. He’s not on that level. Excellent player but not a generational talent.

Trade is solid if it ever got to that point.

But I can guarantee you if he'll take 9.5x8 then Dubas will just keep him.

Not gonna lie I thought there would be way more TML fans bashing me. Glad to know you all have good hocket sense haha.

Couple points to make though

1: I included Sutter as a cap dump only. I see how that offsets the value, but if this trade were to go through in any capacity the Cauncks would have to shed salary somehow. Someone comented about LEafs wanting Tanev instead and I think GMJB would be completely fine with that.

2: A lot of that talk is about how Marner wouldn't sign for 9.5 and I get that the number is a bit low from what's expected, but do you guys think there will come a point that this whole process sullies the relationship between Marner & Dubas, and he would sign for less with a different team just to get this over with? Or do you think Marner is in it for the long haul and will take nothing less than 10+
