Marner trade

Description
Not a big fan of Marner but this a trade that I could see as workable. Toronto is up against the cap and really there is no way to sign Marner without moving a significant player. Most of the defense is either a RFA next offseason or an UFA. This trade would give Toronto some long term depth on the blue line and give them a more affordable RW that could pay dividends.

Jackets get an elite playmaker in Marner.

Again I really don't see Marner in Columbus but...some things has to give in Toronto.

Marner would likely start with Jones. Not a 5th D, top 6 forward prospect and 1st. Sorry, but they'd want Jones for 4 1sts.

I don’t necessarily think it would take Jones, but certainly looking at Z, Andy, Foudy + and that isn’t what the jackets need to do right now.

Either Jones, or Werenski+. Otherwise there is absolutely no deal to be made.

Marner is never getting traded because the leaf wont get the value in return, mainly because other GMs dont want to overpay Marner either. If Marner was at a realistic number like 9 mil max you would get full value in trading him. There is a reason the media has been hyping this situation for months and nothing has happened.

The only way a Marner trade could even talk about Jones is if Marner is signed at 9 or less at 5 or more years, the trade it self isn't half bad, Nuutivara is perfectly fine Dman on a very nice contract. Truth Marner won't be traded and won't be signing for Matthews money either, he'll end smack in the middle between Matthews and Nylander. It'll be at mid to low 8 per at 3 year bridge or 9 to mid 10 at 5+ years.

The only way I get concerned about Marner not signed is if all the other A RFAs are signed and Marner isn't, until then not all that concerned.

Marner stays in Toronto for $10 million per, He wants the Matthews deal at $11.6 million per. So no way he signs that offer.

*Another tumbleweed rolls by

Another day, another trade/offer Sheet huh?
I wonder what these people think of nothing happening via offer sheet. One would think they're intelligent enough to see that is not worth A: overpaying and B: giving up picks and prospects on top of overpaying the kid.

There is reason why Marner has not signed any offer sheet.
He doesn't want to leave Toronto, period.

Yeah but he loses leverage by not actually signing. Look, Werenski instead of Nutivarra would sound better but the problem is again too much cap space being used. Like I said, not a big fan of Marner but if he is unwilling to sign an offer sheet then he is basically letting Toronto squeeze him in negotiations.
