this is a bad analogy because those joe randoms could be STUDS on elc, like marner, rantonen, laine, o'connor. But you take the centers and fill in with good wingers. its not helpful to have good wingers but nobody to center them.

So much of this is dependent on the rest of the team structure. I see the point that you're going for, but IMO the context is everything. Teams need to have a superstar player at the top of the roster, but they also need to have 3 scoring lines, role players, positional depth... If I had to answer your question, I guess I would say Matthews and 3 replacement-level players, just based on the rarity of a top end center. But I'd rather have the full team information to make the decision - for example, if the team already has John Tavares and doesn't have much wing depth, maybe my decision changes.

But those players aren't making league minimum. Think of Ennis and gerbe

you know what im getting at though. it entirely depends on who the players are and not just joe random, and to A_K's point above me, what the rest of the roster looks like factors into the decision. if im Toronto using its current roster, without marner signed. you take the wingers.
