Why would the Islanders make that trade?

It's probably just to clear cap space. But that's a decent prospect (last i checked), a 2nd, and a top-4 d-man (at least i think he is) for a middle 6 forward and some cap space. The better idea is to just not offer sheet Marner.

I would love this. Your pdo will drop so far into the ground and four top ten picks would be great. I also dont think you can just put guys on ltir for no reason

We don't need the cap space now. We just need to be smart. AKA we need to not offer sheet Marner.

Lad is out until like January I think barring no setbacks. I’ll edit it and trade Hickey then just put him on IR to appease you

Also adding Marner would not make the pdo drop, it would probably only have us jump the leafs for first place

In what world would an Isles team with Marner net you 4 top 10 picks, when the same team without Marner made it further than the, supposedly superior Leafs team with him?? Those 4 1sts would be 20-32 each year the next 4 years. At worst they would be bottom 15 picks, of which you might get 1 player who sniffs being a Marner type.

Also, Ladd just suffered a torn ACL and had surgery and is 32... LTIR for him his HIGHLY likely.

I missed ladd going down, that's rough. Loosing a .930ish goalie wont help your team and replacing him with Varlamov isnt great.

You can dump Leddy for picks and keep Bellows. Don't think Ritchie will be THAT good.

I think you can dump Leds and Hicks for picks. Use those picks to then dump Ladd. Frees up like $15M in cap space

Varlamov has been someone the Isles goalie coaches have wanted since last year. Supposedly Lou tried to trade for him last year when COL got Grubauer, but COL wouldn't move him. I'd trust the scouting of Mitch Korn, goalie guru, over the scouting of a Leafs fan on CapFriendly 10 out of 10 times. I mean the guy turned Robin Lehner into a Vezina nominee and the pair of Lehner and Greiss (who was atrocious the previous season) into Jennings winners in just 1 season.

Lehner did not have a bad season before, he was very good for Buffalo and I defended him numerous times. His success was no suprise.

Yeah, I think the reason the OS's haven't been flying like the media predicted is because it makes sense for so very few teams. If Aho got an OS and signed at 8.5M, how does this work for the betterment of Isles. And if Marner comes in at 12.5M like in this example, then what will Barzal want next year?

Varlamov is a very talented goalie, the concern is his hip problems. Mitch Korn and Piero Greco will take him back to his .920 + days combined with the solid defense of a trotz system, PDO is not a concern from a goaltending stand point. shooting percentage is the one I worry about. I also would not add Marner for anything more than 11 and ideally at 10.5

Look, I am a HUGE Lehner fan and wanted him to stay, but to say he was very good for Buffalo is just a bad take. And I'm not saying he isn't a good goalie, but his last 3 seasons in Buffalo is GAA were 2.47 (Okay), 2.68 (Not so good) and 3.01 (pretty bad). Now, I realize those Buffalo teams weren't that great, but the point still stands that he was not a very good goalie for Buffalo. I think he is a very good goalie overall, but the Isles defensive system and goalie coaches are what turned him into the goalie he was last year. I fully expect Lehner to regress a little bit on Chicago and will gladly eat my words if he puts up another season like he did with the Isles.

Its where his GAA and Sv% were before the Buffalo teams completely collapsed that showed what he was. In the December last year (in Buffalo) his Sv% was .920. McCabe got hurt, they lost a couple games and the team collapsed around him. Thats what happens in Buffalo, they are extreme mental midgets. Adding in multiple conflicting egos and no leadership in the coach. Lehner stood on his head multiple seasons in a row and got no help, I said this last season.

So, you basically proved the point I was trying to make, without a sound defensive system and strong leadership Lehner is an average to really bad goalie. If he has a good team and defense in front of him he can be outstanding, which he was last year, but otherwise you're getting league average at best.

You literally said.. when the Sabres were good, he was good... when they started sucking, his numbers plummeted... sounds to me like he needs a good team in front of him to be good, but whatever man. I mean, there was a reason the Sabres opted to let him walk instead of qualify him and possibly trade him for something.

You’re right, there is no point in going around in circles with the two of you, when neither of you can see plain logic right in front of your faces...
