A top pairing defensemen in his prime should get this 100%. I don't get why people are upset about this contract. The cap has gone up over the years. It's a great deal IMO

Only problem is Trouba isn’t a top pairing defenseman!

The best thing about this contract is that it silences all those DET fans who said Trouba would end up in DET as UFA next year.

Now that's what I call YIKES Chief. The term is fine by me as I think Trouba is an EXCELLENT player, but 8m per season AND a NMC for all but 1 year? Talk about an unmoveable contract, Rangers are really banking on being able to fully build their team after Shattenkirk and Staals contracts expire in 2 seasons.

True. Still a bit more than i'd want to pay him but it's not crazy.

This is almost as bad as Shea Weber's contract

How, rangers got Trouba from 25-32 years old. With the tv deal coming up in two years which would give a. 10-20m cap increase this deal will be a steal in years 3-5, nervous abt the final two years but there is no bonus money those years...

Btw, where is detroitredwingsfan58?

We'll see about the TV deal. 15m cap increase would mean a 30m X 31 teams. Closer to 1 billion increase a year on the current deal. Hope you're right.

The tv rights projection for the next deal is 400-600m and the current is 200m. There have been a few articles of how this affects the cap space but the numbers reflected 15-20m extra per team

I may have gotten the number wrong, or he deleted his act or blocked us, either way

Doughty and Karlsson really broke the defensive market. This is a crazy price to pay. At least the last 2 years is a modified NTC rather than full NMC.

Spanky talked about a 200-400m increasingly. Lets say 320m...thats 10m per team but just 5m cap increase per team. So I don't understand the wild optimism about about 15m to 20m cap increase if going by the reported TV numbers.

Kind of expensive, but I mean they are buying out a ton of Unrestricted Free Agent Years.

While slightly overpaid, not the end of the world.
The issue is NMC on the contract, that is what makes this a bad deal.

Trouba wanted control, Rangers gave it and that is where they wet the bed on this signing.

Now add the overpay factor into this = get rekt
Good luck keeping DeAngelo, Lemieux, and Buchnevich now.

I can agree it was a slight overpayment and they would have been fine with this...but they went and got Panarin for 11 million.
Now being over the cap presents scenarios they did not need to face.

Overpaid. This is a $6,000,000 player, and he is completely selfish. He is not a team player.

Tbh this contract isn't that bad. A small overpayment short term, but it will probably look fine long term. But this contract puts the Rangers in a difficult spot. Over the cap limit, still need to resign Buchnevich and DeAngelo and they have a lot of expiring contracts after this season. Next trade(s) will look bad, not the ideal position for a rebuilding team lol

It's a clear overpay, but I would rather overpay a young, top-pairing, right-handed defenseman, rather than some toast vet.
