Preds would rather Turris I think - and they want to shed salary, so not gonna have a high contract/high contract swap

Adding a 2nd and Thompson to Sheary and Risto isn't going to get AA. Thompson isn't even if Buffalo's top 10 prospects anymore. Sheary isn't really something Detroit needs right now. They have about 5 players that play a similar style. Risto is good offensively but struggles in his own zone and he turns the puck over like he's playing for the other team. Detroit could move Neilson or Glendening back to D and get a similar effect. AA is 30g scorer with world class speed. Detroit declines your offer.

WAY too much for Athanasiou...and I definitely don't want Turris, that contract is as bad as Okposo's, put Okposo in Nashville and he could get 23 points like Turris did.

Thompson is definitely a top-10 prospect...if you're saying that because of Future Watch, they don't count him because he's played a certain amount of NHL games.

And who in Detroit is like Sheary? They don't have a speed demon capable of 20 goals and 40 points like him. He easily makes Detroit's top-6, all they have is Larkin, Athanasiou, Mantha and Bertuzzi. Besides that they have a decent young kid in Rasmussen, an old Nielsen, and a bunch of bottom-6 grinders like Abdelkader, Glendening, Helm, and Filppula, none as good as Sheary.

And Ristolainen would be a top-pairing defenseman in Detroit. You have Green, Dekeyser, Ericsson, Daley, Nemeth and Bowey. Seriously. That's awful.

He broke 20 once and he did get close with 18 one season. Larkin, AA, Helm, and Glendening are faster than Sheary. Abdelkader has the same amount 20g seasons and more 40 point seasons. As you said they are old but when you add in Hirose, Zadina and Veleno coming top this year. Sheary isn't good enough to take time away time from any of those prospects.

Yeah Detroit's defense is old but Green, Ericsson and Daley aren't really tradable and will be gone at the end of the season. Making room for Hronek, Cholowski, Hicketts, Kaski and McIssac..

I did find a recent ranking that had Thompson listed at 10. Die by the blade

This is top 10 and Thompson isn't on it.

But it really doesn't matter. Even with Thompson being in the top 10 still doesn't get you AA. He is a 30g scorer and he's the second fastest behind McDavid.

So the Wings aren't going to be a playoff team this season. It gives prospects more time to develop and no reason to trade away a 30g scorer.

If Detroit wasn't going to give up AA for Trouba why would they for Risto?
