With Buchnevich is this a Playoff Team

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 19, 2019
Published: Jul. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The "bottom six" group of forwards is no worse than average and the defense is the same. The issues for this team are (1) there are two "bust-out" possibilities -- Puljujarvi and Yamamoto -- and the bottom-pairing defense couple is highly suspect, not to mention the goaltending. (Then why trade Benning, you might ask? Because a third is a third.)

Buchnevich adds a scoring threat to the second line and this price might be acceptable since the Rangers need cap space now due to the Trouba signing. NY is thin in defense prospects right now.

All of this may be moot in light of today's Lucic-for-Neal rumor.

Where are the Buchnevich rumors coming from? I’ve seen it in several threads today and it’s making me confused.

The Rangers need to clear up cap space desperately, especially with that Trouba contract, so it’s likely they either trade Krieder or Buchnevich

Honestly I feel like it came mostly from 1 NY Post article. They can shed Vlad and Strome’s contract first before even considering this.

I think they’d most likely trade kreider before Buchnevich but either of them would be a huge add for the Oilers.

They had cap concerns even before signing Trouba to $8 million. They'll probably have to move two big ticket players to stay compliant.

I like the trade someone else suggested of De Angelo and Strome for Devin Shore and Anaheim's 2020 second.

I say it’s a 50 50 wother goes, but if I were the rags GM which I never would be cuz I’m an isles fan I would extend Krieder and trade Buch, I think he needs a scenery change

Have you heard the supposed Lucic for Neal deal yet?

Lucic to Flames with salary retained by Oilers, guessing 1 to 2 million
Conditional pick of some kind

For Neal

I dont think Oilers have room for Buchnevich after that.

I can see them moving one of Buch/Kreider and possibly Strome or Namestnikov but not trading both Buch and Kreider. NYR has come to far to have to resort to trading both of them while having to keep both Strome and Namestnikov.

Agreed. I think the most likely scenario is that Gorton extends Kreider to get cap certainty and then moves Buchnevich; there's a possibility that the other guy who goes isn't Strome or Namestnikov but one of the RFA's (De Angelo is a desired quantity).

They don’t need to move Buch. Bury Smith and trade Strome and Namestnikov and that’s plenty of cap...

If DeAngelo is such a hot commodity I say you try and pawn off Strome or Namestnikov with him and then attempt to cap dump whichever one isn’t packaged with DeAngelo to Ottawa. But I saw this one trade with ANA where NYR got Devin Shore in return and I really liked it.

Not if it means trading Buch. Their not gonna hold onto a complimentary player and trade away a young 2nd line player for giggles...

Buch isn't getting traded. Rangers aren't trading a cost controlled player on The verge of reaching 50+ pts a year, especially for defenseman prospects ,rangers are loaded with defenseman in the farms.

How is he "cost controlled"? Do the names of Johnny Gaudreau, William Nylander and Mitch Marner mean anything to you?

Cause he wants a 2 year bridge deal. 2 x 3.25 , Names will be moved , Smith goes to Hartford and Shattenkirk is most likely being brought out. The last person to believe on Ranger news is the Ny Post.

Also your putting Buch in with a class of guys he isn't worthy of comparison yet.

I know that, and agree with you. My point is that "cost controlled" doesn't mean what it used to. Now it's no more than a synonym for "under contract."

As a Ranger fan I dont want two defensemen back, they have prospect depth. Swap out either one for Maksimov (sp?) or Marody and I might do it, though I hate to trade Buchnevich.

You're the third person that has said that to me today. I don't see it. You have four young (good) players on the roster already (so I'm not counting them) and after that, the only prospect who looks like he's a good one is K'Andre Miller, who isn't even signed yet.
