Less term for Tkachuk for that price. I'm thinking agents are looking to stay away from what McDavid, Draisaitl and Eichel did by signing for 8 yrs. All 3 of those contracts will be bargains in 2 years time (with 5-6 seasons remaining). Short term is the way to go.

I simply cannot see the reasoning behind the Lucic deal. Maybe it will make more sense to me in the morning, but how does a third-round pick help them achieve a better result this season than they got last year?

Maybe there's a locker-room story we don't know.

I think you look at production comparisons last year and it’s an absolute wash. In terms of on ice performance and contract aside Calgary swapped third liners, gained toughness, gained cap space and a pick. Neal didn’t fit in Calgary, him and Peters were visibly upset with each other in the playoffs and he would have been strapped to the third line.
I think one big thing to look at is if Calgary had Lucic last year, you don’t see Hamonic miss a ton of time with a broken jaw from a much bigger player in Gudbranson

Yeah Gudbranson would never of smashed Hamonic's face in if the Flames had Lucic cause Lucic would've been chasing Leipsic around the ice slashing him in the back of the legs, that would've kept Gudbranson in his place... ?
